The ultra high calory density makes for good field meals and easy logistics with the added bonus that soldiers will survive for months without food if need be. Just make sure they are either locked in a bunker or surrounded by enemies that don't take prisoners, otherwise mass desertions start 4 hours after the last meal (yes you have to wake them at night and feed them to keep their blood sugar high)
