Some of my friends in the group chats are sports fans and whenever they talk about sports, they don't talk about the sort of stuff I imagine a sports fan would actually care about. It's not "I hope my team wins the big game " and stuff like that, it's always the meta stuff.
"Hey dude, did you hear the Minnesota Penguins are going to sell their quarterback to Washington Eagles?"
"Yeah I heard coach LeMarius hates Chad Thunderpeepee because he called him the n word back in 2017 so they're getting rid of him. I thought they'd get rid of the coach first, there were rumors he's going to transfer off to either JanuarySixers or Arizona Thunder Warriors"
"That would have been such a shame, he's been with the team for four consecutive Galactic Cup victories, if they win this year too he'll finally get his Stormwind Signet Ring and a statue in the Hall of Fame"
It's always nonsense like this, discussing trades, injuries, transfers etc. I started noticing this a few years ago when I finally googled "fantasy football" after hearing them talk about it every fricking year. Whatever happened to just liking the game? You'd think the average sports fan would be like a FIFA 2023 fan not a Football Manager 2023 fan.

Talking football, since that is "my" sports.
Because those are easy things to discuss. You don't need a ton of knowledge to say "Oh, he has an injury and will be out for 5 weeks. That sucks, cause the (worse) backup has to play". Or "that good player from another club who has tons of assists now plays for your own club".
But when you want to talk about the sports itself you find that there is not a ton of information. You probably heard of tactics like 4-4-2 or 3-5-1. Then maybe you have heard that you usually use different tactics when attacking/defending.
Really great analysis like this (sry German) is rare as frick. Or smaller stuff like why United defenders made goal kicks vs Arsenal. And honestly, I can understand the explanations. But I would never be able to see them on the field on my own (especially due to camera views being really shitty - you need to see the whole pitch to view tactics, so only works when you visit the stadium). I honestly wish there was some kind of "coaching material" available online. Like the stuff you need to learn to get your manager licenses.

Nothing is more thrilling than having an hours long discussion over UZR and DWAR over beers at the pub.
