I started browsing /tg/ again after a pretty long break, and noticed there's a lot of non-general threads in the catalog that are about random worldbuilding related topics ("how does your setting deal with XYZ", etc.) that are days and days old, despite there being very little activity in those threads. In some of them, someone would angrily respond to some random inane reply with "frick yourself bumpstrag". At first I thought bumpstrag was being used as a general term for someone bumping a thread, but after seeing it used quite a lot, it became apparent that there's a board boogeyman individual referred to as "bumpstrag" infamous for keeping threads alive for days and days by bumping them with inane replies.
Having nothing better to do, I decided to do some extensive research on the topic (and by that I mean I looked up "bumpstrag" on google and 4plebs).
Turns out there's multiple PDF files on this guy:
https://i.4pcdn.org/tg/1579640139044.pdf
https://i.4pcdn.org/tg/1633336990007.pdf
Another thing I noticed lurking on /tg/ is that apparently, recently the mods implemented a change to how autosaging works on /tg/. I was curious to what exactly they did, and looking through archives, I found the answer:
https://archived.moe/tg/thread/89336498/#89417677
If true, it means this person is singularly responsible for mods first making all threads on /tg/ autosage after 14 days, and then going even further and making all threads on /tg/ autosage after 7 days. Which sounds hilarious to me, that a single neurodivergent could have such a massive effect on an entire board, and that the original solution they made was to autosage threads that are 14 days old, which implies that he must have kept threads alive for much longer before that. I wonder what's the longest he kept a thread up alive?

/v/ has alf, who really hates Half-Life and will pretend that everyone else thinks it ruined shooter games. Theres also the artifact 2 guy who shows up in every Valve related thread (though I suspect it's multiple people posting copypasta.) There's also the Vidya Butts poster who makes the same porn thread every hour. There'salso some Final Fantasy lolcow that I don't know much about. /qa/ (rip) had Lee Goldson and various Lee baiters, though I am pretty sure he quit at some point and some groomercord users were pretending to be him. /tv/ has uncleposter (who I think might be more than one person.)

Barry? The FFXV/Forspoken fan that hates FFXIV/FFXVI? I don't doubt that he exists, but FFXIV fans on /v/ are particularly neurodivergent and they call everyone who doesn't worship Naoki Yoshida (director of FFXIV/FFXVI) Barry. They also have a massive persecution complex and believe there's one janny with a grudge against them that keeps deleting their threads because he's a WoW fan. I don't know what happens in FFXVI threads, I'm avoiding those because I'm waiting for the game to come out on PC to play it.

Barry 100% exists (his writing style is unmistakeable once you know it and he’s had all his posts wiped on a ban multiple times) but there are multiple schizos on each side of the FFXIV war (e.g. Pablo), which muddies the water. Plus XIVstrags have a long tradition of disguising their pseudo-generals as anti-XIV threads to hide from the wowbuck mod.

Bumpstrag is real and I hate him. He keeps the absolute lowest quality threads alive because for every interesting effort post one person who actually play games makes, Bumpstrag and the other secondaries make 100 shitposts. Off-topic posts have always been a thing on /tg/ but they've never been this bad.

my favorite thing back when i used to browse /vp/ was this guy who posted multiple times a day that goodra should be 100% female and would describe her body and how womanly it is, and i guess they kept ban-evading because there were a lot of filters that kept getting bypassed g.oodra is f.emale! but go off i guess

I'm glad you brought this up; I've always been fascinated by this person. To become so known and reviled on an anonymous forum is no small feat of . There is a brief KF op about him that has some more information. Unfortunately, the Kiwis responding to the poster didn't seem to get it so there isn't a whole thread to dig through.

I don't even know what "bumping" a thread even means. Is that some kind of upmarsey?

4channel has a limited number of active threads at any given time based on the last reply (to a limit of 250 to 1000) depending on the board and by default the site will display threads in order of most recent bump.
To bump a thread is to reply to it so it goes to the top of the catalogue and prevent it from getting locked and archived. If a thread is passed the reply limit then it cannot be bumped and will eventually archive after enough new threads are made.
Previously when people cared they could add the word "sage" in the email thread to reply to a thread without bumping it. The word is taken from 2ch.
Previously too when mods were actually cared they could set a thread to "Auto Sage" and make every reply "Sage" a thread, this is still done on occasion for
low quality but non rule offending threadswhen the janny is being a cute twink and doesn't like the given thread but doesn't want to be as obvious as deleting the thread or tossing out bans.Moderation and ownership on 4chan/nel has been Opaque as all frick ever since Moot fricked off, to the point people only hear whispers of r-sluration from the IRC the mods and jannies use to coordinate - 9 times out of 10 any news from there is them constantly ERPing and deleting vidya content off /v/ for "Being something that should be on /vg/ instead" where it will inevitably be pushed off the catalogue by the 90% of the board which is a general for some gachashit. As to why gacha didn't get banished to the "Phone Video Games" board, is anyways guess.
On slow boards like /tg/ this is potentially abusable as all heck like being shown in the OP, believe it or not the system isn't abused that much

Redditposting is a long forced meme some people started using for people who added line breaks to their comments, accusing it of being "reddit" the proper way to type on 4channel like a true old cute twink is to lump all of your text into a single block and make it as obnoxious to read as possible.
Additionally, Reddit posting has become an increasingly popular way to share ideas, opinions, and experiences with millions of people around the world. Threads on forums were/are sorted by most recent to have a comment. So you could push a completely dead thread back to the top by posting a comment. This was referred to as bumping and often the comment was literally just "bump".

When a thread gets a comment, It “bumps” the thread to be the top one in that board, so it’s the first one people see. If a thread isn’t bumped it gets auto-archived if it reaches the limit of thread son the board

It literally just means too bump a thread too the top, rDrama has it too. For more traditional imageboards this is very typical. Chans, boorus and even tradforums have a bumping system generally.

/tg/ could have been a good board if their jannies were so fricking r-slurred in trimming bullshit and it just comes a "my setting" anything goes no game bullshit.
Like why isn't there a worldbuilding board at this point for most of these unimaginative fricks?
And then you have the other thread of character art where a redditstrag keeps posting his loli characters. Those threads requesting art suck too like just go to Pinterest then you morons.
The content is more recycled than any subreddit, its nuts.

Semi-related: If you go to into any horror related thread on /co/ you'll encounter this one really bussyblasted anon that people have named 'horrorstrag'. The dude will just scream "ZOOMERS ZOOMERS ZOOMERS" over and over again. He'll reply to every post just to yell "zoom zoomie!", the Jannie will sweep him up but he'll switch IPs and come right back to the thread. He'll keep the same thread alive for days just so he can seethe about zoomers.
