Or if you're friends were anything like mine, cartoony Deadlands. Or just find better people. I tried to play a dnd module with a group of very fresh off the boat marine vets, and they r*ped that game like an unprotected vietnamese twink. My favorite character was "Gub, the mute dogfricking goblin"
Mainstream D&D is closely tied to this weird zoommillenial theatre-kid-nerd culture. Systems that aren't D&D usually have players who are more literally neurodivergent, but more normal, if that makes sense.
You and the mailbox mimic click almost cosmically; Putting on a show for the neighborhood and causing most of the house appliances (also mimics) to come out and watch.
You notice that the dryer is eyeing you... but because you're not a Kenmore, you don't know if it is with lust or jealously.
There's a bunch of virtual tabletop software and websites that simulate the character sheets, dice rolling, maps, and the like. I use Roll20 and FoundryVTT personally. Then for voice/text communications, I use Groomercord.

You can find nonneurodivergents but it requires some effort, "mature" (age not NSFW, be careful not to accidentally into a coomfest) groups can be ok

Don't play dnd then, play something like Delta Green or do some other sect of omega autism like battletech

Delta Green is basically table top x-files, you're feds (usually) fighting eldritch abominations with rules similar to call of cthulu
