China moves forward with transsexual uterus animal studies, give 13 rats a non-consensual s*x change

https://journals.lww.com/transplantjournal/fulltext/2023/10000/transplantation_of_the_uterus_in_the_male_rat.16.aspx

In this initial test, 6 out of 13 rats survived to the 30 day point with 5 of the 7 dead due to graft thrombosis. To me this sounds quite high lol but the researchers viewed this as a positive indication that this is a viable surgical procedure. Maybe there are differences in rat biology or it's expected that people are going to frick up more when performing surgeries on small rodents :marseyshrug:

Of the 6 survivors, 4 had functioning ovaries and upper vaginas. While the study was inconclusive in this regard, they indicated that biological cycle activity was present and it's possible transplanted ovaries may be able to provide a full female reproductive cycle to an XY person. However, our Chinese friends concluded that figuring out ovary transplantation is a big pain in the butt and they'd be able to get this procedure across the clinical finish line faster if they stuck with uterine transplants for now.

Most science:!marseytrain:s I've spoken to on this topic are of the opinion that the surgery could be done right now, since uterus transplants are already an accepted procedure for cis women, and the only relevant difference is hip bones (which would necessitate c-section) in trans women who transitioned too late to get pelvic changes from HRT

Personally, I'm just in it for the seethe as technology exposes in the inherent similarities in the biology of genetic males and genetic females. I'm going to get some enjoyment imagining trads raging at :marseytrain: menstruation in the year 2088 :marseysmug2:
