Finished Dragon Age Inquisition recently. What a shitshow.

It was okay. Some of the ideas of cool to play through but the side characters and side quest design is pretty wack in their bland open world. Much prefer a tightly designed set levels/area rather than a open world ubisoft slop. The main story kinda falls apart later on and it's only saved for me with a select few characters being pretty interesting.

The amount of war table missions you get is really tiresome. These missions are side content you send out your advisors or party members on to get some reward after a few hours of real time.

eg. Send your Diplomat to a noble gathering in a foreign city to negotiate a trade. Get some gold and a unique item after its finished.

This is all done from a menu and you never actually do these missions in game yourself. Huge waste.

Some of those missions had a cool premise and described locations you've never seen in the series. Having these missions being actual quests you can play out in a set up area instead of a bland open world would have been nice to see instead of all this passive play where the game plays itself for you. Frick MMO design bs in single player games :marseyraging:

Mission tables are the dumbest mechanic games ever started fricking with. I don't know why any devs think it's at all enjoyable.

I really liked the idea of "have some strategy in your RPG" when I heard it in some pre-release stream, but it was the lowest effort possible implementation (despite writing for it needing quite a bit effort). Even the basicaly-tabletop ruling mechanic in Pathfinder: Kingmaker was eons better simply because you earn some resources and spend some others there, inqusition didn't let you do anything but unlock quests.

Even the stupid barebones quest to collect crafting materials was useless since it would require you to go back to that table every 15 minutes and reset it. Just have it autoloop ffs.

How hard can it be to just make a small level to have the quest in instead? Dragon Age 1 did it all the time. Hardest boss in the game was a side quest area consisting of like 4 rooms.

Dragon age 1 is the only good dragon age.

"Wow these people have magic powers that cause demonic invasions if they're incredibly stressed or angry. Lets force them into servitude and treat them like pariahs, proclaim them cursed by god. Surely this won't backfire"

:marseyclueless: :marseyclueless: :marseyclueless:

Also Cassandra has templar anti-magic powers without being a drug addict by pure training. The vast majority of magic police have to be drug addicts because.....they just have to okay?!

I wanted to do actual Inquisitor stuff too. Hunting heretics, demons, rogue mages and being a secret police against corrupt priests. Not nearly enough quests like that in the game :marseyitsover:

Bioware games have just become excuses for various quirky character interactions, romances, and dialogues, the main plot does not matter. The best example of this was the Citadel DLC which was pure fanservice. But it worked pretty well because it's a game and the plots are almost always warped by the fact that the story has to fit the game mechanics.

I wanted to do actual Inquisitor stuff too

This should be the final evolution of the Bioware rpg, just a bunch of interesting side quests that let you explore different character stories without the pressure of needing to save the world since Bioware main quests kinda suck now.

Yeah the dragon age setting already has demons, monsters, pagans and fantasy muslims. Just make a ton of quests and little self-contained stories where you act like an inquisition. Hunting down cults, heretics, schism and crime. It's fricking easy.

Favourite character in the game imo. Very pretty voice too. Solas was cool too. The rest are either annoying or borderline with marvel tier quips like the dwarf.

>wow so the hateful magic police actually use magic drugs to get their powers. Social commentary:chadsoylent:

Yeah she was very cute, :marseyblush: even thru she was like 35:marseywall:.

The character design and voice acting was the only good part of the game

IIRC their explanation was the le Church (very evil) wants to keep them loyal by controlling supply. Why it has to resort to tactics :marseypimp: uses on his :marseycarpfans: they never bother to explain, beyond le church evil.

all the clergy are women wih a female pope

There's your answer :marseycringe2:

It's funny since the kingdom ran by godless wizard lords has a schismed church with a male pope. They apparently are much more competent since they're always at with the Qunari. Giant horned creatures who follow fantasy islam and always raid the Mage Kingdom.

It's implied that's because they use le evil dark magic. But yeah, they're not-Bizantium that simultaneously fought off multiple crusades and not muslims, the latter having cannons. IIRC not-catholics (led by w*man) needed to allow mages onto battlefields for the first time just to fight them off, but I might misremember that.

Apparently the next game is going to be in fantasy wizard byzantium. Not hopeful that they won't flanderise the heck out of it. They make ot sound like a pretty cool place. Tropical Byzantium ruled by Wizard Nobility and Chud Pope.

I never finished Origins, is it worthwhile and if so should I play the rest of the franchise?

Origins is good including the Awakening expansion but Dragon Age 2 + 3 are very meh tbh. Only play them if you really enjoyed the setting.

I've been playing Skyrim again recently. With a few mods it holds up very well.

Best bit in game: getting locked in a coffin with Mother's corpse and realising that she's still alive.
