American Arcadia

So I heard this game was mediocre but had a cool ending so I thought I'd play it to check out that ending.

The plot is basically just stolen from The Truman Show where you play as a guy who's on a TV show and who is trying to escape to the outside being helped by a woman who is a hacker watching him through CCTV cameras.

The gimmick of the game is that you play the man's part in 2D and the woman's part in 3D.

Most of it is pretty simple puzzle solving, especially the 2D part which is often just press right and watch him run along while listening to the characters talk to each other.

And yes, the characters are just as soy as they look, and behave just as you would expect them to behave, the man a wimpy nerd and the woman assertive and in charge, usual routine. She was also very obviously Latinx which she would remind us of every few sentences by saying a bunch of (easily understandable for mayos) Spanish to herself. It's funny how speaking Spanish is a virtue signal nowadays.

None of the dialogue was particularly that funny or entertaining though, but not annoying either, just kind of forgettable.

Throughout the game I was wondering what the twist was going to be. The two characters not actually in control of their escape and the whole thing orchestrated by the TV company would be the most obvious twist, but it wouldn't be that predictable would it? lol turns out it was exactly that :marseysleep:

So really you just have a meh platformer and a bunch of forgettable writing and voice acting. I suppose if there's anything redeeming, the art and design was pretty cool despite the creepy dot eyes that the characters have for some reason. There were a few fun ideas here and there too like one part where you're running within a Twitch-like window watching everyone in chat comment on whatever you do with the character.
