it's like the KOTOR games where if you go back and look at them now they're pretty trash
but when they came out they were kind of novel and interesting. a lot of people liked them

They came out like a year apart (very late 2007 vs early 2009). And DA:O was absolutely the best RPG of the era, there was almost nothing compared to it during the time.

Origins was very strong with a solid plot that was clear and easy to follow with a good foundation of what goes on in the world.
What sucked a bit about it is some of the class balance, the silliness of the interactions with companions, oh and when they started DLC bombing you in game like when some npcs in game will tell you oh hey there is a nice fortress we want to explore but we need certain funds for it, <proceeds a="" buying="" dlc="" for="" give="" it.="" lead="" prompt="" the="" to="" window="" you=""></proceeds>
And I kinda wished we had the speed and pace of DA2's combat, then it would have been the perfect game.

This seems like a constant problem for D&D-like fantasy games. Mages are always just better than anything else. Just because of the breath of abilities if nothing else. Mages can deal elemental damage, heal, do AoE damage, shield, do single-target damage, burn mana, etc. etc. Meanwhile warriors can wield a single sword, with a shield, or wield a large sword, or wield two swords at the same time.
DA:O fricks it up even further by giving the best specialization in the game (blood magic) to mages. Worse still, despite the characters making it clear narratively that blood magic is forbidden and blood mages are universally hated and feared, the game does nothing to punish players for choosing it. While technically there are consequences for selecting it, it's trivial to avoid them or work around them.

I hated Inquisition
I got it for $30 and I'm still mad.
Played Origins after Inquisition on Gamepass. It's dated but I can see the BioWare charm.
Haven't played II. I don't think I have anything to gain from it.

II's combat is too fast pace with enemies dropping in from no where. Repeated maps, but despite that I stand by the plot of it being solid.

Inquisition is extremely mid and got extremely lucky that it released in 2014, which was probably the weakest release year in the last 15 years, so it very little competition surrounding it.

games. I loved the variety of choices dependent on the origin you choose 
and how it affects the narrative throughout the game

It was great, new fantasy IP that just kind of came out of nowhere that had a lot of new takes not seen before. Plus, romancing Morrigan and turning her to the light side was amazing and I'm still in love with her tbh, I hate that they never really followed up on the story like what happened to our demon baby that we made together? It was good to see her in the last one as a cameo but if anything that just pissed me off that they've never finished her story... or I guess they have and she's just older and leading a boring life now I guess.

It actually
changed quite a bit about the game. Depending on DA:O choices Alastair or Logain was the warden you meet in the stormy place.
Lelianas personality gets adjusted I think, warden tracking if he's alive, bunch of war table
stuff, interaction of morrigan and the kid, etc

I ended up getting myself soft locked 15 hours into the game. It seems like it could have been a really decent game, but I got the impression it was easy to get yourself stuck in a situation that you couldn't get yourself out of, even with loading previous saves.
