Gearbox has officially parted ways with Embracer

Gearbox Cuts Ties With Embracer

Gearbox, the studio known for titles such as Borderlands 3 and Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, has officially cut ties with the Swedish gaming giant Embracer. This comes after the announcement was made In March 2024. The studio now sits in the hands of Take-Two Interactive.

Embracer purchased Gearbox for an eyebrow-raising $1.3 billion in 2021 during a rapid worldwide buying spree. However, things changed when the company changed strategy to become a “heavy-investment-mode to a highly cash-flow generative business,” and this would require “closing or divestments of some studios and the termination or pausing of some ongoing game development projects.” Studios closed by Embracer include Volition and Campfire Cabal.

The transfer didn't come out of the blue, as a staff email in September 2023 stated that the studio is looking to either transfer or go independent, as Bloomberg reports. Following the transfer, Take-Two Interactive now possesses Duke Nukem and Borderlands among other franchises, while Embracer retains ownership of Gearbox San Francisco, Gearbox Shanghai, Lost Boys Interactive, Captured Dimensions, Cryptic Studios, and publishing rights to Remnant, Hyper Light Breaker, and various unannounced titles.

With the sale of Gearbox comes the end of the company's restructuring, and it has no short-term goals of restarting mergers or acquisitions, it announced in March 2024. According to CEO Lars Wingefors, the current plan is “to increase profitability and cashflow generation” by “simply making better products and games.”

conclusion

I'm going off my bipolar meds because I feel like they're cutting into my creativity and writing ability. I used to be able to type out pages of shit no problem, now I struggle with a few paragraphs. I even have problems expressing how I feel and what's going on inside my head which used to not be a problem at all. I want the old me back, the one who had a million ideas to write about and didn't feel the slightest resistance to writing about all of them. Tune in next time when I discuss Sodom and Gomorrah.

Real talk sneedman. Based on your writing you should stay on the meds. Ive seen your exact comment about being able to write from other bipolar people. Its hard to treat because depression feels awful but mania makes you feel good about being crazy.

People with mania often feel like theyve lost some part of themselves because mania provides strong, positive emotional feedback. Its very good at tricking you because you can write 10000 words of rambling nonsense and feel great about it. The posts didnt make sense, often repeated the exact same point in multiple sections, and were often boring. No one could read those and be suprised that you suffer from a severe mental illness.

By comparison this post is clear and coherent. Clear writing is a sign of clear thinking. It feels worse to you because its shorter (better) and youre not getting a manic rush in the writing process.

Dont be tricked by nostalgia for an unhealthy feeling that manipulates your brain. Cocaine addicts feel great too, but feeling euphoric doesnt mean your brain is functioning and its accompanied by a crash.
