The annoying part is that these companies have a culture of Codes of Conduct etc - surely they have a Social Media policy that says "Swallow your feelings, shut up, and say nothing publicly because you're going to make it worse." Unironically he should be fired for throwing fuel on the fire for an organisation that has caught alight.

Companies should remind their employees that saying anything about the company on social media is the job of the marketing department. If I started tweeting shit about the companies I work for I would get fired so fast, but I guess if you're in video games you can just do whatever you want because vidya companies are staffed by manbabies from the bottom to the top.

Yeah I feel like because they work in a creative industry / on an entertainment product that they forget that they are a business and somehow think it's okay to get mouthy on public social media.
Like maybe they genuinely have deluded themselves into thinking the general consumer and fanbase doesn't have a chud bias but even then do they have any sense that when making a product you want to appeal as widely as possible? And that a good strategy is trying to appeal to your core fanbase and then try to include newer fans?
Like I don't understand the push for audiences that don't simply do not exist / have not historically existed. Make an actually good fricking product and 9 times out of 10 you'll not need to worry about anything else.
