I say this unironically but I really do believe that Star wars has outlived its time period and we already have multiple better franchises that have built up upon and improved the ideas that star wars came up with.
40k is better than star wars.
Halo was better than star wars.
The current iteration of Dune universe is better than star wars.

If you go back without the nostalgia blinders on new EU isn't actually that much worse on average.

I don't agree. It's not that hard to sell Star Slop to me, and the fact that Disney puts out a dozen Star shows per hour, each with a multi-billion dollar budget should be great, but most of it is just boring. I can dig up some piece of old EU media I've never seen before (thus no rose tinted glasses) and have reasonable odds of enjoying it. The best thing Disney put out, Rogue One, was written before they ever bought the property. There's something about Disney that squeezes the fun out of everything.

This is the most r-slur tinted glasses take. I loved old EU, but it produced slop at Disney rates, and caught shit for it at the time.

I picked up Dark Nest I: The Joiner King which is the sequel to the New Jedi Order arc during the pandemic and walked away feeling somewhat less antagonistic towards the Disney EU despite generally sharing in this forum's sensibilities regarding inserting and storylines into everything, but that's just me. @SpookyFartMan69 man69 and I were just about to create a ping group, he wants to name it !gonk but I thought that might be too obscure and sounds too much like a certain portmanteau that people here love to throw around. Thoughts?

Old EU had very poor continuity and ultimately you were just hoping for internal consistency within each installment. I'm in favor of "let people enjoy things" on this one though. The only issue with YA or made for all demographics type IPs is that too many people fail to grow out of them or to expand their horizons.

I feel like Star Wars should have stuck with that casual strategy.
It's so funny you should say that because I was thinking that a lot of the big IPs that are failing nowadays big issue is that kids just aren't into it. The thing I've seen star wars fans amp the most is Andor and I can't imagine kids were into that.
Jump in the discussion.

I think kids still probably do get excited for the Clone Wars animated series etc they just aren't online talking about it. I mean when I have kids in the next few years I'll be introducing them to some of the older material, lots of normies would also fall into that camp. I know someone IRL who got a Mandalorian tattoo the other year and he's an otherwise well-adjusted individual. Our perceptions are probably just poisoned by being places like this where everyone is either or or both.

Star Wars was never very good but I understand why it was popular because in it's time you had two choices for live action Sci-Fi franchises and that was it.

Star wars was just supposed to be fun. You have space knights/ninja/monks fighting with laser swords. Shame they couldn't do it without inject copious amounts of current year politics

This
Srsly, though, Star Wars isn't meant to be deep. Even in it's conception, it's meant to be cheesy popcorn flicks. You can def make a fun universe out of it, but what Disney made is all just so lame.
Even the shittt prequels kind of work as soap opera crap, the Disney movies are just miserable.

Note that the original Star Wars did just fine without needing any lorecute twink nerds trying to come up with a backstory for every little weirdo puppet or side character with 0.00001 secs of screen time. The writers just focused on making a good story and the whole story and characters just came alive as a result.

Also Star wars is action packed while still being family friendly.
You can't do a 40k story in the style of star wars. Nor Halo. Dune comes the closest and that's why it may replace star wars if we are all lucky and let the corpse of star wars finally die.

The problem is that there's been a decade of lame shit at this point, so anyone young will be put off by it. Which means the fanbase can do nothing but age and eventually grow out of it. Even if they turned around and made some amazing star wars slop for the masses, it'd be too late to turn the ship around. It will forever be known as that weird old person thing.

Yeah and they can do that for star wars. The star wars extended universe before disney was absolutely on levels above 40k and Halo. Revan was genuinely interesting. The empire being (kinda) justified was interesting.
The post disney stuff is "Girl boss" "here's the new r-slurred deathstar" "marvel quip" "Oh palpy is actually still alive that whole arc was pointless" etc, etc.

Was it because the Jedi order had become stagnant and the entire galactic order was stagnating into failure?
Idk who that is.
I remember in the extended universe that there was an extra-galactic threat that invaded the star wars galaxy, and that there was a robot AI only two seconds away from taking control of the death star before the death star was destroyed. ( This robot shut a door on palpatine which made him crash his face into it. )

First question:
In a way, there was a threat that the Jedi were completely unprepared for and would be slaughtered. The empire, including palpatine, was a way with dealing with it. They were definitely self interest but their goal was to save the galaxy.
Second question:
Play the old republic its like 2 dollars

Nah the Vuzhang Vong or whatever the frick they were called were a terrible fricking concept. It makes 0 sense in the context of the original trilogy and prequels cause it just means Palpatine apparently thought the best course of action vs a massive unknown threat was to have the galaxy rip itself apart and lose many of its best generals and overall fighting capacity. Because apparently Sith lords do things for the greater good of the galaxy and not out of sense of personal ambition.
Because somehow Palpatine could definitively see into the future that a massive alien threat was on the horizon ready to destroy the galaxy yet couldn't see that he was going to get thrown into a pit by his right hand man before then? Honestly this shit is up there with Palpatine being able to revive out of nowhere and conjure up an entire space armada out of nowhere in the new trilogy. Might as well make it a thing.

Palpatine was lawful evil. He was absolutely doing it for himself but the justification was to protect the galaxy.

I liked the vong saga and I like the morally gray empire, but this isn't a real good justification for the Empire. Palpatine was coo coo nutto evil.
Han Solo summed it up in one book where he just talks shit about how r-slurred the empire was for 2 pages and would frick up the vong invasion the same as the shit republic.

Lawful Evil? Whose law is he trying to follow? Palpatine, like the rest of the Sith, just follow their precepts of self-interest and ambition, not some higher code that tells them to do the needful to protect the galaxy.
How is the war of conquest explained to "protect the galaxy" when it involved crippling its overall defensive capabilities through decades of intergalactic war? None of his actions in the mainline trilogy support the idea that he was trying to fight a bigger enemy that was yet to be seen. The Jedi were going to be slaughtered by le big bad aliens from outside... so Palpatine decides to slaughter the Jedi a little earlier and decimate the galaxy's fighting forces so the aliens can take the empire and his bussy ever easier?
It's a very stupid concept that cheapens the themes of entire story while turning the main villain into a gigantic moron who can't even do utilitarianism properly.

I didn't like the yhu zong vong tbh. I dont remember how its spelled, but I do like the idea of the empire preparing for an external threat. Now the empire is just completely r-slurred in its administration without the justification.

I agree about Halo but 40k is taking off and getting there.
I used to love reading the description of the Halo Armor. Did ya know the first generation of the halo armor actually ended up fricking up the soldiers that tested them? Or was it the second? Anyways one of the gens before they gave it to the augmented human soldiers was too powerful for any baseline human to wear so their spine or arm would literally shatter from how fast the armor reacted.
The 3rd gen Spartan armor was actually meant for teenagers who were orphans from the war with the Covenant glassing planets and these kids were sent on suicide missions with the Spartan III armor.
The Spartan IV armor was the first time that a Spartan Armor could be given to an adult human as the technology to augment adult humans without killing them had finally reached that point of advancement. As per my understanding the Spartan IV's are still inferior to the Spartan II's in terms of combat effectiveness.
I liked the forerunner trilogy and enjoyed the kilo V trilogy where they followed the politics of the galaxy after the covenant was destroyed.
We got to find out the Shangeli ( Elites ) have a very r-slurred martial culture which made them practically useless the moment one of them ever got wounded.
I think it got kinda stupid once the humans were made the chosen ones.
Edit:
additional cool fact. The AI Cortana given to masterchief is on the same scale as a Spaceship AI. It's like taking a supercomputer from today and fitting it into a little SD card equivalent then inserting it into a powerarmor for a single human.

I feel like 40K would flop before it ever reached star wars levels. It's still a niche internet hobby and they added female Custodes, by the time it hits mainstream we would have trans primarchs and slanesh would be re-written to be an ultra-Chud

I started looking into 40K stuff with the bandwagon and I really like it, but there's no way it can remain what it is and get that mainstream steam. They won't ruin it with female space marines (which they'll do), they'll ruin it by turning everything safe grimdark.

Even if the graphics suck, there's something kino about the vibe of the original trilogy. Really feels like you're a random marine who got the cool set of armour, off to save the galaxy against overwhelming odds. Shoutout to everyone on /v/ for peepeeriding 1-3 or I never would've played them after the wannabe deep chosen one fantasy garbage that was 4.

Gaming mostly. There's been a steady drip of fairly popular games the last deckade. Space Marine 2 was a pretty big hit just recently.
However in the cultural ozmosis of the internet, 40k has pretty much replaced Star Wars. Star wars just is not cool anymore.

There are a bazillion sci-fi books normies have never heard of with potential for amazing adaptations. Star Wars flopping proves brand recognition is overrated. Movie studios need to take a (slight) risk and put 50 mil behind a Peter F Hamilton screenplay instead of 200 mil on another SW show.

That's not gonna fix the problem though. It's Hollywood writers being dogshit that is killing it. You can swap the Star Wars setting for a new one but it's all moot if it's the same generation and culture of shitheads that write the adaptation.
