here's 343's community manager admitting the only reason they're changing the name is to hamstring and convolute criticism at their abysmal handling of the franchise

Half Life 2 came out the same year as Halo 2 and smoked it graphically, 2007 was Crysis and Halo 3, same thing. 343 are going to burn another 500 million and 6 years pooping out some ultra realistic looking tech demo soy nonsense with washed art direction, leading the old games to still hold up better, and still have sprint in the game, mid gameplay and no content at launch.
some r-slur at 343 recorded and edited this video to exemplify how for real this time they've definitely changed, and the idiot fans still dumb enough to enjoy this franchise, are in the comments and immediately dunking on them pointing this out, I really can't think of a developer that is this out of touch with the franchise they work on

In retrospect, Halo 3 was sort of archaic by 2007 standards. What it had was that it was just absolutely rock solid, good physics, everything about it just worked, and it made the most of simple mechanics and gameplay that was super customizable and offered a ton of different modes. It's sort of the opposite of every modern game in that way, which is why they will make utter slop forever and won't recapture why Halo 3 was so magical- it really was the swan song of the 90s era shooter

Yeah 2007 also had COD 4, Bioshock, Butt Creed and Uncharted which all were more graphically impressive, Halo 3 made up for that with its art style, which still looks great today. I feel like I'm going crazy reading their press release and watching that video hearing them bragging about how graphically impressive the tech demo is - and it isn't even that good

Part of me thinks improving graphics are the death of video games. Companies spend way too much time and money worrying about how the game looks compared to how it plays, when in the end, most people would rather play an ugly, fun game rather than a pretty, boring one.
