That not what you would expect. It started strong but began tapering early.
We will see if the weekend numbers go higher but I have doubts.

Despite what Grummz says these are okay numbers. They are not good so rightoids feel vindicated, but they aren't bad so leftoids feel vindicated.
The seethe is just not there

It has 9k more players than Baldurs gate does now on its launch date…
I genuinely don't understand what is and isn't a success in gaming it seems

It depends entirely on the budget. These numbers definitely don't mean anything incredible for a studio of their size, but they're likely not in total flop territory either. If I had to guess, they're probably above margins but not nearly as much as they'd like to be comfortable. Doubtless they'll call this a win to own the chuds though.
I'd expect review scores to follow the same trend that Starfield did though. A lot of people celebrate day 1 review scores being mostly positive, despite the fact that they obviously haven't had any real time invested into the game to develop an informed opinion yet. Judging by the godawful tone and dialogue, coupled with the overly preachy gay shit and mediocre combat, the reviews after a month likely won't be anywhere near as favourable. I'd expect people to double down on polarized positions because of the culture war stuff and for there to be no meaningful consensus.
