oh holy shit it's so much worse than I thought it would be

I thought they were gonna bring back 6v6 / 2-tanks, but no, they're going all the way back to when some of the heroes had the most r-slurred design decisions ever

lmao at anyone playing this, they get to learn how fricking riveting hide-and-seek mercy gameplay was

I think that Blizz is doing this as a 400 IQ move to show the OW2 community why the many changes were made in the first place - they will bring back a dead game that was originally released during the pre-Drumpf Orange 9/11 2016 heydays of the lives of millennial !g*mers, motivated by nostalgia for simpler times both in gaming and in their personal lives, and before Blizzard shat the bed completely, and also the absolute dogshit predatory monetization that makes them nostalgic for fricking gambling lootboxes, this will show them just how much frustrating the gameplay was for most people back then, and then maybe they will shut up. :marseyshrug:

Except when majority of fanbase love it and end up crying how good ow was until blizzard ruined it. Even louder

Yeah, especially if they do shit like make it so there's no classic mode WITH hero limits (one per team). They realized very early on in development that letting a team go with multiple sym/hog/winston etc was a complete mess, I think it was less than a year before they shunted that game mode to the arcane and added limits to all quick play and comp matches. The original mercy was also extremely OP and extremely boring - as soon as one of your team members died, your job was to literally run away and hide and let the rest of your team die, then sneak back in to res them all at once.

For a point of reference, in the first season of OWL (their tourney), every single win used mercy. Only hero that was used in 100% of wins. Not just match wins, but individual game wins - there were a few teams that tried going without her but not a single one ever won a single game that way. That's how OP she is. Literally mandatory but also boring.

And yeah the lootbox system was 100% better, but that's because they added code that prevented you from getting duplicates (within the same item class), and you also got so many credits that you could selectively unlock any skin you wanted, just not necessarily every skin in the game. I know a lot of people hate on lootboxes but the OW ones were completely free, you got a ton of them, and unless you unlocked every skin ever you were guaranteed to get something you didn't have.

OW2 killed the game and Jeff Kaplan definitely left because he knew it would kill the game and his superiors wouldn't budge.
