Let's say it's lunch break or you have some down time, is it weird to whip out your Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch?

There have been weeks that I've gotten paid more for playing games on my phone than for actually working.

Back in my day me and my work buddies would play wireless Mario Kart in the Nintendo DS. This was fine since it was social, there were three of us and the Nintendo DS was small and discreet.
But a Steam Deck is fricking massive. There is no way to "whip out" something that big.
It would be cringe and off-putting. May as well bring a whole desktop PC in and set that up and eat cheetos while being dazzled by RGB lighting -- because that's how bad it'd look.
In summary, yes it's weird. The only way to make it not weird is if there's a bunch of you and it's a social thing.

Hi sneedman, I am sorry to reply so late.
I think it is fine as long as you are clocked out and in an area where you won't disturb coworkers with videogame noise and/or music.
If you try to play at your desk or wherever else your main work station is, I worry that your coworkers and/or boss might think you are slacking, even if it is your break.
This probably doesn't help at all. But I hope you have a great Thursday!

As long as you aren't disturbing others you shouldn't give a shit what others think about you. It's your time. Enjoy it in whatever way you like.

Depends on where you work. Generally, it's a little weird, but mostly because you're not socializing with co-workers. Otherwise, as long as you're playing with it muted or through headphones, it's not much worse than spending your whole break on your phone. I worked at a game studio for a bit and lunchtime multiplayer was pretty common, no one would have batted an eye. If you work at an accounting firm, it's a little weirder.
When I was starting out, working in tech support before that was completely outsourced, I'd bring my GBC or GBA to work and play on slow nights. Those are the only fond memories I have of those jobs, they were brutal otherwise.
