Remember, you're not up against the stupid AI. Assume you only have what you start with or get historically. It's an MP game, not an RP game. 
Also funniest part, you would still have less industry than romania, and would have wasted so much focus time on stupid alt hist stuff they would just r*pe you from the air.

What's fun about fighting a no-supply war with the AI just to get r*ped by someone who played sensibly? The fun in MP is that your opponent isn't braindead and can counter micro/macro

Try map painting in MP and what yourself get r*ped by volunteers and embargoes
HOI4 has gameplay and good micro unlike EU4, it discourages map painting as you lose out on a massive amount of industry and scaling in doing so, it's literally not a map painter, you can play it like one in single player because the AI is r-slurred, but when your opponent has a brain, it's just not possible.
