1 million copies, once you substract whatever cut Steam/Microsoft/Sony take to publish on their platform, you're left with what... 50 million dollars maybe ? On a budget that's estimated around 150M, and that's only for this version of the game - not including the failed ones that probably cost just as much.
At best they will manage to get their money back over the game's entire lifetime, but they sure as heck won't turn a profit.

Maybe if you neglect the time value of money. Obviously breaking even on your 150million dollar investment after 5 years is worse than just investing those 150million in very safe financial instruments and ending up with 200 million after 5 years.
I think I said 3 or 4 mil to break even and I was being generous, so I'm kind of in agreement with this guy. If it's only at 1 mil, there's no way they are going to cross that threshold. This game lost all it's steam within the first week.
I don't gaf about the money. It's yours. I thought it was gonna be a 20,000 concurrent players failure and it wasn't, so I don't have a problem with just putting that bet to rest.
