The most shameful purchases I ever did were for the first four expansions of EUIV. Coming from Civ I just assumed that 4 expansions was probably all that was going to come out for a single game. There are no greater paypigs in the industry than Paradox's.
They used to do only 2-3 expansions per game, but you had to buy everyone of them, no free updates I think it's a fair change and it also means a lot more updates over time.
But are they good updates? I've heard about a fair amount of drama with some of them. The 2-3 expansions would also be less expensive than all the DLCs that have been made for EUIV or CKII at this point. I'd rather take a few quality expansions and have them move onto something new than the same game getting updates for 10 years.

Yeah, every hoi4 DLC has significantly improved the game, especially NSB which included the most important part, reworked supply, as a free update, HOI4 without the DLCs is amazingly playable and multiplayer only requires one person to have them all. Every DLC has redditors complaining, that's what single-BIPOCs do, but on the whole every DLC has been good to very good and gamechanging. It's not like in EU4, because in hoi4 there's an actual game to build upon.
The only "bad" hoi4 DLC is Trial of Allegiance, but it's more pointless rather than bad, the content itself is not poorly made.
Also, it wasn't really all that cheaper when they made only a few DLCs, the Victoria collection on steam costs 100+ dollars at full price. Overall, the modern games are a better deal. EU4 is a completely different situation to hoi4, mostly cuz it's a map painter and not an actual game so the DLCs are really minimal.

You can get it all for 8 dollars with the subscription, and even so, you are supposed to be buying them one at a time. It's like saying WoW expansions cost a lot. They also each come with massive free updates While some of them are a little pricey overall it's actually a very reasonable price. Especially considering only 1 person needs to own every DLC for multiplayer. Also remember that they made many of the old expansions free. The only ones i don't like are Trial of Allegiance, a completely pointless bloat back. There's also an additional 20% discount if you buy it as a bundle

Hoi4 literally uses steam servers for multiplayer lol, the only pirated multiplayer you can do is creamy.
>In a game where average match can take dozens of hours why would you even want to play with randos?
What is lil bro yapping about, they take 6 hours tops 4 hours average. Anyway, because it's fun and competitive and only one team has to be randos. It's not like you just join some random lobby from the server list, these things steam organized before hand, we even organize some here on the site. You very clearly know nothing about hoi4 MP
Pirating the whole shit like this is just completely counter productive to playing multiplayer, only the host needs the DlCs anyway.
There is literally guides on cs.rin.ru for multiplayer without steam... It's called online-fix. Probably would work on Hamachi or something too.
Yeah I don't play HoI because I never understood the fun of it. But I played other paradox games like EU4 and CK over pirated multiplayer, so I know it's possible.
Also 6 hours is still a lot of time to spend with total randos.
HOI4 literally does not have network capabilities outside of steam, both EU4 and CK do. I just looked up the hoi4 fix, it's literally to do it through steam.
>Yeah I don't play HoI because I never understood the fun of it. But I played other paradox games like EU4 and CK over pirated multiplayer, so I know it's possible.
Yeah, so you don't like games, you like painting a map in an easy setting. The fun of hoi4 is that it's an RTS with actually good wars, like StarCraft, and it's only truly experienced in MP.
>Also 6 hours is still a lot of time to spend with total randos.
It's a lot of time for them not to be random anymore.
Does it through steam? So? You can still play online with your friends who have the same crack.
So the statement: "only pirated multiplayer you can do is creamy." is false

Tbh It looks to overly complicated, even to someone who is very familiar with paradox interfaces and mechanics. I don't mean complicated in "wow so inttricate and deep" but more: "Want to micromanage 10,000 different things that other games automate?"
>It's a lot of time for them not to be random anymore.
So your treating HoI4 like some kind of grinder for neurodivergents?

If you want to play with a friend or group of friends and you have same pirate version, you absolutely can play the multiplayer together.
