Reddit unironically had a hand in killing the internet. You suddenly had a one stop shop for any niche forum you wanted. Because it was a one stop shop other gay shit started to seep into unrelated forums.
Why would I want some idiot redditor soapboxing and politicking in my vidya forum. Now that's the norm because of their crossover on Reddit.
It helped reddits nested and prefiltered (upmarseyd/downmarseyd) comment system was probably superior at the time compared to forums of old, which helped it get popular, but now it's just out of hand.
