It's not a bad show. They had it on around 1pm every weekday here and when I was a kid I'd watch it in the summer when I was off school.

Say what you will about old geezers, but Andy Griffith was an incredibly charming man.

I regularly watch all the old cop and lawyer shows. They are top notch :marseyboomer:

Boring and pointless movie but i actually enjoyed Harrison Ford's performance. Really embraced the aged old man thing in a much more heartfelt way than I would have expected, especially considering how he sleepwalked through The Force Awakens lol.

The director of that film, James Mangold, is actually pretty talented too but there was no passion or energy at all behind the movie.

Dial is a tier below even crystal skull

Yeah it is worse than Crystal Skull for sure I just surprisingly enjoyed Ford's performance. But that's nowhere near enough to even slightly redeem it. At least Crystal Skull had Spielberg's flair and energy.

I didn't see Dial of Destiny because of fears it was worse. Crystal Skull is enragingly bad.

It's remarkable because Spielberg is an incredible filmmaker, like on the level of craft alone he is absolutely one of the best to ever do it. Even if I think his recent movies blow, I can still look at them and say "this is very well made." But Crystal Skull actually just seems to misunderstand what people liked about Indians Jones completely. It's a baffling movie.

I hate commies as much as the next guy but you can't just replace Nazis with them in an Indiana Jones movie. They might have been just as bad but the circumstances of how Americans interacted with them was much different. In my grandparents' generation they went off on exotic adventures around the world and killed krauts and japs and it was pretty simple. You get into the Cold War and it's much more complex and closer to me and not as fun.

And the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail have a certain gravitas that the goddarn crystal skull hoax just does not have, even with flying saucers. Especially in Raiders of the Lost Ark it's very good at telling you throughout the movie that this is a power beyond our comprehension. I don't want to know if it's Yahweh as seen by ancient Jews or aliens as seen by ancient Jews or what, that's one of those things that your never reveal because it will never live up to the audience's expectations.

Aliens don't work to replace ancient artifacts. Scoffing at the concept of the crystal skull makes no sense for what Indy has seen.

More importantly, thinking the Russians are crazy for what they're looking into makes no sense when the US was doing the exact same thing, with remote reading and all sorts of Men Who Stare At Goats stuff.

I think George was mostly in charge of that one and Spielberg tried and failed to stop him from ruining it.
