I've owned it for years and it got out of early access recently and I've built it up so much in my head I'm afraid to actually play it

I like how DD looks like it's off the n64
Taint game looks exciting but like it could be any modern AAA release

Finally an actual recommendation. Out of respect, I'll get it
Looks deep fried, like the Cruelty Squad one

Cruelty Squad was actively unpleasant to play by sound graphics and fatally controls
Refunded that shit

I get majora's mask+morrowind+grimdark energy from it and I'm very excited to play it one day
Everything I've seen of it over the years looks so fricking promising
Other recs - do you like fishing and Lovecraft? Dredge
Have you played Dave the Diver (carp's 2023 GOTY) yet?

Dredge looks fricking amazing. Dave the Diver keeps getting recommended by everyone but it just doesn't look that fun to me :(

I can't think of anyone DtD wouldn't appeal to. The first hour or two (if you're slow) are kinda π¬ but once shit opens up it's like nothing else in terms of "one more day" every 5 days when you remember you have things to do. I haven't been that obsessed with a game since NMS was new to me.
Dredge is phenomenal though. Lovecraftian fishing game, beautifully stylized, great ambiance, lots to do, solid core gameplay loop. I've bought and 100%'d it on two platforms. DTD is way better but Dredge is a joy in itself and I can't recommend it strongly enough. Both are very unique experiences that defy any sort of "it's like X" or "it's like X meets Y with a bit of Z" comparisons so they're weird to recommend but I do think you'll enjoy Dredge a lot.
I assume you've played Vampire Survivors by now?

Dave the Diver was fun for like 3 or 4 hours. Ignore carp soying out about how a game that doesn't look fun to you is actually totally fun for everyone and you just don't get it.

Little goody two shoes is great. If you were the type of person that watched let's plays of indie horror RPG maker games in the 2010's, it is an easy recommendation

Played this when it came out of early access, beat it in about 20hrs. It was sort of marketed as a morrowind-like, but it is more of a King's Field-like. Very solid, 7/10 experience. I recommend it.
And the combat was absolutely trivial when I played it, but they made some fixes since then.
