The Social-Democrat's ideal should not be a trade union secretary. but a tribune of the people, able to react to every manifestation of tyranny and oppression, no matter where it takes place, no matter what stratum or class of the people it affects; he must be able to group all these manifestations into a single picture of police violence and capitalist exploitation; he must be able to take advantage of every petty event in order to explain his socialistic convictions and his Social-Democratic demands to all, in order to explain to all and every the world-historic significance of the struggle for the emancipation of the proletariat.

[megathread] Post your favourite rdrama-themed OC artwork! (but read the damn post first :marseylongpost:)

While I was touching grass for a couple of months this spring, the bar for inclusion in our sidebar has dropped precipitously, and a lot of people are quite literally submitting shit they found on 4chan or ifunny or something. It's not their fault, really, considering that a bunch of things of this sort were added in my absence.

Well, no more. 113 former sidebar images have been deleted based on me just quickly looking through the list. Vast majority of these will be fairly unconroversial deletions, since I just killed really low-effort and clearly unrelated stuff, choosing to spare things when in doubt. A purge of duplicates will probably come later, whenever I get around to it.

Regardless, at this point we need you to help us fill rdrama's sidebar with some more amazing artwork!

As you can see in the sidebar we have some amazing artists of our community, who created a number of truly phenomenal, high-effort images and animations about the site in general and Marsey in particular. While the images do not have to necessarily be Marsey themed, but I will be quite anal about demanding that it to has at least some relationship to the site. Try to make them understandable to majority of our userbase, at least, too. Poweruser inside jokes are not really going to fly here.

Something like this would be perfect:

https://i.ibb.co/84XY2hK/ezgif-5-93b7d9c5ba.gif

Something like this - would not work (and was, in fact, y'alled):

https://i.ibb.co/HqcxhCK/512.webp

Anyway, vast majority (at least 80%) of actual images that have been on the sidebar before this new thread have been retained, which is great. And we are, of course, always looking for more!

So, please use this to post artwork you'd like to see in the sidebar!

PS. When adding new sidebar images I might sometimes forget to grant you our beautiful sidebar artist badge (shown in the post) - please yell at me and it will be rectified. If you see your image in the sidebar and don't have the badge - let me know here, too. With the link ([number].webp is enough) somewhere in your comment. And bear with me, please, sometimes new submissions are a trickle, but at other times - they're a flood.

Doing this specifically because @MenAreWorst was complaining that I don't post any real news or some shit. This is what it looks like when I do that. Yes, it's boring, lol, but it doesn't mean that Ukros are actually doing well...

We have a bit of a leak in rDrama...

...and as our designated coal mine canary, it's up to me to notice these things, despite others not necessarily seeing any immediate danger. :marseyohno:

What I'm referring to are almost entirely humourless circlejerks near (or often at) the top of the comment section of any remotely political post. :marseygigaretard: I've noticed that quite a few people have just entirely stopped following Klenny's famous guide, despite being quite well integrated before! :marseysad: Currently, some of our comment sections on random posts having practically no relationship to things being circlejerked over, will often degenerate into weird .win-tier seetheposting. Some of that is driven by pinkies, sure, but most of it is from well-established users. :marseydunce: Maybe it's the fault of leaderboards which encourage circlejerking, maybe of mop laziness, maybe it's just the general political situation. Perhaps it's carp. Well, it's definitely carp, actually. But some of you are at fault too. You know who you are! :chudsey:

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I've gotten a go-ahead to be exceptionally mean and do whatever I needed to do. Well, I couldn't come up with anything actually good and new :marseyicecream: so I figured that I'll just be lazy and resort to random violence :marseybuff: since it definitely isn't getting better on its own. Posts themselves are mostly okay but a lot of our comments sections have become absolute dopplegangers of cp.win :marseyyikes:

Being a benevolent chekist that I am :marseycomrade:, I figured that I'd let you guys actually know what's going on before implementing it, so here we go:

IMPORTANT INFO BELOW:

  1. If you want to start a circlejerk about BIPOCs or πŸš‚πŸšƒπŸšƒs, make sure it is at least applicable to the post. :marseyreading:

  2. In addition to that, make sure it's at least somewhat entertaining to the general audience. Try to make a joke. :taylaugh:

  3. If you can't connect it to the post, at least make sure it's really funny. Just saying Saying 13/52 on a post about, idk, airplane security - does not qualify as really funny. It can be funny, there are some cases where it's really funny, but just reciting shit you've read on /pol/ is not funny on its own. Sorry. :marseyshrug:

  4. If you can't do that, rule one is pretty clear and I'll start fairly randomly (upon seeing stuff that I find boring) handing out mop-:chudsey:s. Across the board - up and down the circlejerks. If you disagree - see rule 8.

  5. What this is meant to do is discourage people from participating in unfunny circlejerks and prevent them from crowding out actual, worthwhile commentary. So if you get chudded for a seemingly innocuous message - sorry. :marseyshrug: Collective responsibility. Avoid drug corners if you don't want to get shot in a drive-by. :marseydeterminedgun:

  6. I'm fundamentally lazy and our mop staff (including me in most cases) usually doesn't like to overuse mop tools. So don't cry about someone else doing worse in some thread two weeks ago. I don't really care, I probably didn't see it.

  7. If you see a bunch of agendaposters circlejerking about how they wish AIDS would have killed all cute twinks or how gun crime can be solved by genociding entire demographics - feel free to ping me. :marseycatgirljanny:

It's ridiculous that literally thousands of people are in prison for first and second degree murder merely for protecting their place of business from legitimate threats to their life. They were providing a very valuable service to their community, yet racist :marseycop2: :marseyblackcop: :marcuscop: and the legal system just decided that they had no right to defend themselves. This is outrageous!

We need to stand up for the rights of these innocent gun owners!

NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE! :#marseylibleft:

Reminder of the fact that our domain is banned on reddit, and a really simple way of getting around that.

We've noticed that some people, even regulars, still try to post normal rdrama.net links to reddit. That doesn't work. Typing https://rdrama.net to reddit leads to your post/comment/DM getting caught by the sitewide spam filter. We've tested it extensively. Typing rdrama by itself is fine, typing rdrama dot net is fine, typing rdrama.net (without http/https) is supposedly fine, but I think it gets caught by some subreddit autojannies.

While reddit gigajannies and powerjannies both absolutely hate us, they are also exceptionally lazy. The sitewide autojannie catches rdrama.net and a few of our evasion domains, it adds new ones very slowly, and we usually figure out that the new one has been y'alled very quickly and replace it. If you want to post any rdrama.net link to reddit - just click on "copy link" button on a link/comment - and you'll get the reddit-safe url (currently rdrama.lol) right in your clipboard.

With this information, you can practice stochastic terrorism without any further delays on account of reddit's autojanny.

[Long] An open discussion on rDrama’s development part 2, aka idio being a petty piece of shit.

This is obviously a response to a carppost over here, so feel free to read it for his side of the story (wrong).

All this happened due to Kristallmopt, with Aevann asking ex-:marseyjanny: what features they'd miss. Seeing deleted comments came up. It was made into an idea of a profile upgrade (purchasable in shop), where every poweruser would be able to see user-deleted comments (jannymopped stuff would remain invisible). It almost happened. I accidentally noticed it in codecel channel and said this:

![](https://i.imgur.com/gpAKj8O_d.webp?maxwidth=9999&fidelity=high)

![](https://i.imgur.com/C0zPRul_d.webp?maxwidth=9999&fidelity=high)

It was then polled and despite carp trying to argue for it, rejected unanimously. Reasons? We're trying to avoid this site becoming a den of snakes where every turbosperg with 20k :marseycoin: can go through your profile and find drunkposting that you deleted yourself months ago and use it to dox you. Also we don't want powerusers freaking out over minor shit and overwriting their entire comment history (which does happen more and more, annoyingly for readability of old posts).

This latter part led to a suggestion of making deleted comments just disappear from one's profile, as a way to make schizos less worried. We couldn't actually delete them from our DB entirely, for a variety of reasons, so this was basically just a visual bandaid to calm neurodivergents down a bit. Obviously it would only work if it wasn't public knowledge, so carp's spergout post made it pointless, and the idea has now been abandoned. You'll still be able to see your own deleted comments.

That part isn't a big deal. What is annoying, however, is that carp did argue for the former (bad) idea, while not saying a peep about the latter until the post that he made. Didn't vote against it, didn't say why this would be bad, nothing. Merely came on the site after it was approved and made its implementation pointless. That was supposed to show how our (((oligarchy))) is dysfunctional and we need a benevolent fish dictatorship, because (((oligarchy))) wants to take your features away. Also notable is that throughout that post he tried to gaslight the userbase by claiming that we were doing it to be more like reddit (a position that literally nobody took or would ever take). This was what dominated his entire post.

That's about it. That's all that happened.

TL;DR: Carp is gaslighting you. Nothing will actually change, nothing would have functionally changed anyway.

Sort of agendaposty in the sense of it refuting the belief that commies don't create anything, but really it's just a way to make you zoomers and rightoids appreciate some of the finer art created by a bygone great civilisation on whose ruins we now all crawl.

Let me start by giving you some background by shamelessly copypasting the message I wrote to @TwoLargeSnakesMating:

In Soviet cinema, especially animated one, the lack of profit motive created some absolutely amazing shit, due to filmmakers not having to worry about the lowest common denominator and being free to experiment. Some of it was absolutely glorious, like the Hedgehog in the Fog cartoon I posted earlier or Tarkovsky's Stalker, some of it just funny, like this one. Same worked to a slightly lesser extent in literature.

But in other art forms, lowest common denominator was for some inexplicable reason enforced from above. Most notably music, making Soviet music fucking horrid up until late 80s... Unironically, that r-slurred decision probably contributed to the fall of USSR, as newer generation thought west was better because their music was (obviously and undeniably) better.

Which led eventually to this:

![](/images/16546224062403684.webp)

And thus this post. So, without further ado - :#marseyidio3: recommendations for westoids when it comes to Soviet art, literature, and cinema:

Let's start by talking about animated films, where this lack of profit motive has led to some absolutely phenomenal experimental works, such as Hedgehog in the Fog:

Or just incredibly trippy, fun, wild shit like Wow, a Talking Fish!:

In any case, there's no way these kinds of artforms could be financed under capitalism - no investor would ever think of them as a viable project. This, of course, was also the case in cinema. Kino is, after all, a Russian word for "film" :marseyreading: (please don't bombard me with etymology, I know where it comes from originally, shut the fuck up and assimilate into Soren).

There was a number of great directors creating masterpieces that would not work in hollyweird studio system. Most notable is, of course, Solaris, which burgers did attempt to remake, but their version was utter shit concentrating on standard hollyweird themes (lowest common denominator) and removing all the psychological stuff. While we're at Tarkovsky, another great example that zoomers might recognise the name of is, of course, Stalker, an amazing piece of cinema, loosely based on a novel (that we'll come back to later) but adapting it in a way that would work great on the screen.

I would probably be disowned by my own people if I didn't mention Come and See, an amazing Belarusian war/anti-war film about a teenager's experience in occupied Belarus during WW2. If you expect some sort of Red Dawn type nonsense - this isn't a film for you. It's an extremely depressing display of war's brutality and effect on people. Another great example of very artistic, psychological war film is The Cranes are Flying. This one was, uncharacteristically, even recognised by the frogs at Cannes.

More "popular" or "accessible" films were also made, of course. Gaydai's success at the box office led to USSR changing the way it paid royalties, lest he become the first, official Soviet millionaire. Comedies such as The Diamond Arm or Gentlemen of Fortune remain incredibly popular among everyone to this day.

Finally, onto literature. I know zoomer attention span cannot handle proper books in any language, but maybe there are some people around who grew up before :marseybluecheck: and can appreciate some of the stuff here:

  • Master and Margarita - of course I had to start with my favourite book, which actually had a difficult history and wasn't printed until after its author's death. It's essentially Magical Realism, with Satan coming to Stalin-era Moscow to look around and host a ball, interacting with many different people. The book is a combination of stinging satire of a number of stereotypical Soviet characters of that era, but also includes a reimagining of the story of trial and execution of Jesus :marseyandjesus: and a new take on what drives Satan... Just amazing stuff. If you haven't read it yet - do so immediately.

  • 12 Chairs and its successor, The Golden Calf - comedy of errors by Ilf and Petrov. If you like Mark Twain - these are basically the Soviet equivalents. Incredibly funny but also great description of the absurdities of Soviet society right after the revolution. An inventive scam artist, a former nobleman, a priest, and a number of other characters race to find a treasure of gold and diamonds that a dead woman has sown into one of the chairs which were sold throughout the country.

  • Quiet Don - this one got its author the Nobel Literature Prize, back when it still meant something. It's more in line with what a lot of you think of as Russian literature - a long, complicated story of a group of people from a Cossack village living through and being divided by WW1, the revolution, and subsequent civil war. Fascinating read, but, like I said, it's very long and detailed.

  • Pretty much anything by Strugatsky brothers - by far the most notable creators of Soviet sci-fi. My favourite of their works is Hard to Be a God, a phenomenal novel, describing experiences of a superhuman guy from the future world where FALGSC was essentially achieved, being thrown into the world of dark age degradation. Filmmakers tried to make it into a film twice, but failed miserably both times, for different reasons. I certainly don't recommend watching the results. Another great novel by them is Inhabited Island (also translated as Prisoners of Power, for some reason) - a dystopian world led by a government using mind-control towers to run an angry society that is rapidly falling apart. I've mentioned Stalker in the film section. Well, it was based on Strugatskys' novel - Roadside Picnic another amazing psychological thriller, where a jaded old stalker is hired by an idealistic young man to go into a nightmarish area full of incredibly weird phenomena. Has the best ending line of any book in history, nothing else comes close:

HAPPINESS FOR EVERYBODY, FOR FREE, AND MAY NO ONE BE LEFT BEHIND!

That's about it for now, I think. Feel free to leave a boilerplate snarky comment about how you're too dumb to have read it all and don't forget to add something stupid about helicopters or breadlines.
