It is dedicated to helping people emigrate, and while most people are well-intentioned and genuine, there's still a lot of political sperging from Americans whining about how awful the US is. This was particularly true during Trump, but still exists to some extent today. Fortunately it's easy to find the sperg posts by sorting by controversial.

This latest decision has us scared for the future, I've been trying to navigate on Canadian immigration website and UK website as well and all this information is just overwhelming. I need help or advice. Bit of history, we both lived in commiefornia for the majority of our lives, I never went to college because I grew up in an environment where it wasn't affordable and had to start working in highschool to help support my household at 16. I was a mechanic for 4 years from ages 19-23, left the field and did some odd jobs, from 25-30 I worked as a copy repair technician. Then COVID hit and I worked for the state for a year as a contracted office technician (EDD). My fiancee has some college but no degree, she has mostly worked at peer work for mental health as a clinician. She is severely disabled and is on SSDI, working a normal schedule or day is very difficult for her, to the point where she hasn't had a stable job in the past 5 years.

Anyone in Canadia want to take in this day laborer and his crazy wife not able to work? He'd be a good fit into Canadian society yeah? Is there a shortage of mechanics or copy repair technicians in Canadia?

I've been talking about leaving the US for years. And as I've watched things like gun violence, systemic racism, and wage gaps grow, that thought has grown stronger. Yesterday was the breaking point... As a woman I am terrified and just want out. I only have two associates degrees in science and art, but quite a bit of experience in offices/management positions. I don't know any other languages but I'd be more than happy to learn. I'd be looking for somewhere to go with warmer weather (normal seasons are fine), friendly community, affordable healthcare, progressive and safe. I will be doing more research than this, but suggestions and insight would be so incredibly helpful.

Without getting excessively political the current national forecast on Queer rights (and just national stability in general) doesn't look all that great and I'm exploring other options. I am currently in school for communications and technical writing (basically writing technical documents for mostly technology-based firms, changed from journ*lism in no small part due to it being a job that allows me to play to my strengths while also being in a bigger and better-paying industry that is easier to become an expat with.

Hey guys, I'm a history major in college currently living in Florida. With the way things are going in the US, I don't feel comfortable staying on the ship while it sinks. I also don't think moving to a blue state will be any better due to the cost of living. By the time I plan on making the move, I will have my bachelor's degree from the University of Central Florida and some work experience (albeit limited since I've been focusing so much on my studies). I doubt there are many if any options for me, but I figured I'd ask around anyways. I am disabled and severely limited in how much I can work (here in Wisconsin, seasonal hours tends be what I can work- which is under 15 hours a week. I can handle slightly more if working from home or working entirely flexible schedules). This is due to several disabilities, including but not limited to ptsd, schizophrenia, and frequent migraines. None of these conditions can be cured, but they may improve as I age. I am currently unemployed (Which is to say, I live with my father and have 'side hustles' to pay for gas, animal care for my pets, and anything frivolous things I want, such as video games or other hobbies. I make under the threshold to be considered unemployed, however). I am also not currently receiving any welfare / government benefits. As such, money is pretty tight for me, and I have limited work experience and no college or alternative post high school degree. I am, however, somewhat skilled with animals / animal husbandry, ranging from dogs / dog training, horses and horse training, as well as exotic animals (ie, reptiles, tarantulas, pretty much any rodent kept by human beings). Other potential skills include sculpting, new age skills / religion (tldr- I can read tarot + know a surprising amount about the academic study of certain branches of paganism. Niche subject, I am aware), and dming ttrpgs (also not really a marketable hobby, but it does mean I am capable of being an entertaining story teller and leader / organizer). I am also willing to accept that immigration is not happening any time soon for me- I am willing to gain relevant skills / shine up my resume in preparation, within reason of course, as I am still disabled and will not ever be able to go to Normal College to get a Normal 9-5 job. I will also add, however, that I tend to be able to work longer hours if I am alone / given more personal freedom- so if it turns out that horse training or some freelancey job is in really high demand, I have a better chance being able to work "normal" hours there (compared to a standard customer service or factory line job- both jobs I have tried and failed).

As a note for what I am looking for in a country- I love colder climates (but also cool mild ones- my dream country would range from 20f - 75f / -6c - 23c). I love both mountains AND the ocean, as well as any historical sites (but especially pagan / pre christian historical sights- think Newgrange in Ireland or Stone Henge, etc). I have no need or desire to live a particularly luxurious life- I would frankly be incredibly happy in a studio apartment / tiny home (provided I was allowed to have access to nature and animals), and some level of stability. My 'dream' would be to not live paycheck to paycheck and be able to afford to do my hobbies (costuming both for larp and cosplay, playing some video games from time to time, riding horses / otherwise being around horses). To put it plainly here, I would rather have fun in life than come across as fancy or classy- I would rather ride a horse than drive a new car, and I would rather dress in thrifted clothing than not be able to afford things like Ren Faires (and costumes for such events). This also extends to things like high taxes / cost of living vs no retirement / healthcare- as I would rather have healthcare and not have to worry about it (keep in mind again, that I am disabled- as an american I cannot afford therapy or other treatments for my conditions. As a teenager I was hospitalized for a period of time for said conditions, and my father was paying off that medical debt for 3 years- and thats with insurance and being middle class. Paying more for food seems a fair trade for me here, and its one I am willing to make. Also in re luxury item taxes on alcohol in some countries- I do not drink due to my medical conditions, so this is also not a deterrent lol). The top three countries I am looking at are Iceland, Norway, and Ireland- but I am open to Canada and the UK as well (heard that Canada is easier to immigrate to, and obviously I can drive my items there as I live in Wisconsin and am not afraid of a long long road trip). I am willing to hear out other country recommendations though- if theres a country you think I'm overlooking, let me know! I also want to quickly note that I do have memory issues and dyslexia like symptoms- so while I am willing to work towards learning a new language, I am going to struggle greatly to do so, and may never reach full fluency. Again, willing to put in the effort, but I tend to sound plenty clumsy in my native language (english), so I don't predict it going smoothly.

[MySpace music] Andrew Landon: grifter, hacker, emo

TLDR: back when we were all emo in the mid-2000's, there was a myspace user who was incredibly good at stealing musicians' MP3 files, taking down accounts, and uploading their songs to his own account. He never showed his face and likely never made a live appearance. He sold t-shirts and booked fake shows. I'm pretty sure he even faked having heart surgery to get donations. Meanwhile, independent musicians floundered when their profiles were removed and fans attacked them. One successful musician affected by him is Noah Gundersen.

† - Some of my sources are "trust me bro, I saw the video/post/myspace before it was taken down."

* - I'm not saying it's good music, but there are a few enjoyable songs. Mostly though, it's very emo, and very MySpace.

#Background

Let me set the scene: it's 2008. You just messaged your myspace friend "rawr <3". your favorite emo-pop-punk song about cutting yourself is blasting on your iPod. Your parents are getting divorced. Your straightened bangs look fantastic.

But you have a tender side too. It's late and you're surfing myspace for something sentimental. Your indie friend has something interesting insta-playing on his profile: Undying Love by Andrew Landon. It's about a king drowning himself for love. You're hooked.

Here's some screenshots to give you a sampler of the drama:

#Andrew Landon

Back in the good ol' days of MySpace (around 2007 to 2011), Andrew Landon was an emo-acoustic heart throb. Except his music was stolen. And his face wasn't his face. And his name was probably a stage name.

He didn't steal music in the take another musician's idea and make it his own sense: the actual music files were ripped from one musician's page and uploaded it to his own with a new name. This guy uploaded dozens of independent musicians' mp3s as his own over 3 - 4 years. Songs with different styles, singers, recording qualities, and instrumentation were all claimed as his with no credit to producers, collaboraters, backup musicians, graphic designers etc.

There are 4 or 5 songs that he would eventually concede were not his, saying that he was hacked and framed. But the majority (30+ songs) were never disowned by him. For example, if you can stomach some questionable music, compare two Andrew Landon songs: "We Could Be In Love" and "Addicted". These are two VERY different songs by completely different musicians, but both were on his MySpace for months/years.

Several musicians spoke up on YouTube and MySpace about Andrew Landon stealing their music, but many of them were taken down quickly†. I reached out to one around 2008/09 (Stephen Dodge) and he seemed defeated when we spoke. When I asked why he stopped writing music, he said "some clown in Florida" kept stealing his songs†. I don't know if he was a master h4x0r or if everyone's password was "password," but accounts and youtube videos went down at an impressive rate†.

One of the surviving testimonies is from the singer of a band called "imadethismistake", claiming Andrew Landon uploaded an early version of his song "Staring Blindly Into A Dull Sunset" to Andrew Landon's page where it was retitled "She Looked Like Death.": Andrew Landon - She Looked Like Death imadethismistake Staring Blindly into a Dull Sunset

After this song had been on Landon's myspace for a over year, he suddenly claimed that someone had hacked his account and uploaded this song and a few others to frame him. Apparently his myspace had been held hostage by a myspace profile designer who... was mad at him or something, but who let him continue the rest of his business as usual.

He continued to upload different songs. He would claim that someone framed him once or twice more. When things got too hot, he would quit music for a little bit, but was always back a month later.

#Image and money

Landon didn't just steal music, he stole likenesses too. His most common images were of a MySpace-popular skateboarder (whose name I won't mention). This skateboarder uploaded a video of himself claiming Landon was stealing his photos†. Within a day, Landon had ripped this video and reuploaded it with much lower quality and dubbed over it to say that HIS photos were being stolen by the skateboarder. Here's the dub, the only video you'll actually find of "Andrew Landon" The original was taken down.

For most of this, I can't say how much he benefitted beyond ego. On the archive.org link above, you can see him trying selling CDs (featuring tracks he later disowned) "for cash only" through DMs. He also sold t-shirts.

He announced a few tours with ...pretty vague venue listings. No one ever saw him perform and there's certainly no videos of it.

At one point, he claimed he needed heart surgery and people donated money to the cause. Big if true, but bigger (and funnier) if not true.

#In the end, I don't think anything really happened.

He moved into spoken word stuff (with his REAL VOICE--same as the voice in the dubbed video). I think ONE musician (Noah Gundersen) took legal recourse, but that's it and I cannot find evidence of it. Like MySpace itself, he sort of just faded away around 2011 or 2012.

The moral? Be grateful but a little sad that your myspace profile got deleted and no one can see just how emo you were.
