I think you can unironically make the case Stalin's purges and terror supercharged the USSR's economy into universal r/grindmaxxing.
I mean--how the frick did they make that many tanks? Germany had the biggest economy in Europe, in 1910, and Russia was a basket case, even if slowly industrializing--and then in 1943 the USSR is outproducing the whole German Reich (including all the Euro countries they had already conquered!) 10-1. And I know no moralizing Anglo historian would ever say this out loud, but because of that, they don't really have a coherent answer for it, either ("oh yeah, communism works so well, usually".) They just kinda try to ignore shit and genuflect in front of muh Stalin-genocided corpse piles.
So Communism, with a lot of mass murder to create terror, actually the best system of social organization.
I know this idea will cause much seethe with no actual ability to disprove the theory (which is probably true, anyway,) maybe I will write it for r/grindmaxxing and r/history. "Stalin and the USSR's Misunderstood Culture of Grindmaxxing."

We had a stint of 2 years when a sitting prime minister assumed all power(constitutionally). All rights were suspended. She wasn't anywhere near Stalin and we never had purges but everyone I've spoken to who worked at that time talk of it fondly. Trains ran on time, staff who normally wouldn't even be in the office building all day would come over eager for some sort of work to report on their work diaries. And this was with an r-slur who got shot by her own bodyguards trying to virtue signal about how she's not racist. Authoritarianism with a competent leader is always more efficient than democracy. That's why Romans maintained the post of dictator.
