Dramatards, is the new Dave Chappelle special - and especially the trans part - actually worth watching beyond its intrinsic drama value?

What I mean is: all the trans jokes in there, are they actually funny to someone like the average dramatard, who has seen trans jokes be done to heck and back? Or do they only become funny when you account for the absolutely hysterical reaction they got out of TRAs?

My honest answer is that Dave seems beaten down and like he's walking on eggshells.

It got a few good laughs out of me though, and it wasn't all about :!marseytrain:s like they're trying to make it seem. I'd say watch it if you have nothing else to do

Or do they only become funny when you account for the absolutely hysterical reaction they got out of TRAs?

Yes. My thoughts the whole time were that he could've gone way harder considering they were gonna be mad anyway

It's hilarious because the alphabet community's outrage validated every single joke he made, right down to the "punching up/down" thing. He nailed it, basically said "I'm outta here, frick y'all" and literally dropped the mic.

As an old, long time fan, not really. It's pretty boring really.

He's not nearly as funny or expressive as he used to be.

It was shocking because it felt like he wasn't trying to be funny. It felt like a goodbye letter. When he said "She killed herself." that was the unfunniest thing I've ever heard. It was powerful.

If you generally like Chappelle's comedy I think you'd like it. I wouldn't watch it solely because of the choo choos though.

Just watched it. Pretty good. I think he justifies the :!marseytrain:s living rent free in his act with the suicide of his friend, and :!marseytrain:s now affecting some of his real life interactions/reputation (and everyone now proving him more than correct.) And everyone else being obsessed with it (like this place.)

I think a couple years ago I compared our culture's obsession with :!marseytrain:s to Walter bringing up Vietnam in "The Big Lebowski," like, why are we even talking about this incredibly small group of people? What the frick does anything have to do with Vietnam?! Who cares about fricking bathrooms (like Dave says, if he's pissing in a Wal-mart, something has gone terribly wrong, anyway)? And we still seem to be there, only worse--Dave responding to that world at some length: I don't know, maybe he shouldn't have bothered. Mentally-ill people and the dumbest kid in your English 102 class on Twitter (and I suppose increasingly, Reddit). Not real places--though it's creepy when they begin to intrude on reality, as Dave also seems to be pointing out--like hearing someone say "SJW" out loud, and you have to stop them.

Yeah, too much of his show was basic pandering, but if his goal was to ruffle feathers, he did that well.

Is this leftoid (anti-black conservative) cope or rightoid (/pol/) cope?

It's disappointment. Reminds me of when Netflix revived Arrested Development or Black Mirror with their worst seasons. I'm not even sure if this is actually Chapelle, I thought "black don't crack" and I'm not great at telling black people apart, but he looks and sounds like a completely different person.

I saw some footage of him in a local town meeting saying what not. His 2020 special with no jokes gave a good glimpse into his shift toward politicking.

Fine Chappelle 2024, I'll vote for him if manages to be funnier than Trump

What's up with Nanette? I keep seeing it mentioned, people say it's very unfunny but also universally acclaimed?

It's wokeshit, terminally online love it and woke reviewers give it 10s, but the average fan of comedy is gonna be bored. It's just ranting and bitching for the entire show minus like 10 minutes, and theres no particularly good delivery or storytelling to redeem it

The reviews are the most pretentious shit I've ever read. Like:

Ashley Feinberg of The New Yorker raves: "She takes a bold new step in the face of a markedly macabre, floundering, and blasรฉ entertainment scene; seamlessly delving from hysterical quips to a gripping life story with profound societal reflections

B-WORD, we get it. You went to Columbia after growing up in a wealthy-butt family on the Upper West Side and have never seen a corn field. Please shut up.

It's a 'comedy' special where an overweight Aussie lady begins with 5 minutes of joke(s) (there might have only been 1 I don't remember) before telling a 55 minute story about how she was date r*ped.

It's really uncomfortable to watch even without considering the annoying accent. Cumtown had a pretty good episode on it though.

No, its pretty low effort and boring and most of the "spicy" so-called anti-train stuff are all jokes weve heard a hundred times before on the internet. It's still kind of amusing he keeps doing it on Netflix of all places though.

I had fun. Laughed a lot.

There's a lotta salty BIPOCs ITT. :na: (Always has been).

I wish he went harder, but he took a more populist change since 2020.

I watched a Chappelle train related clip from here a few days ago. I'm guessing for norms it's hilarious, but I only chuckled at most. Lots of spilt truth, but truth alone isn't funny.

However I would like to see more just to vicariously enjoy what the SJWs would be experiencing.

Sticks & Stones is better but the Closer is still good. Honestly, though if you have time to make this post you've got enough time to spend an hour watching comedy.

If you like Chappelle you'll enjoy it on some level, but it's more entertaining than it is funny. Like a 6.5/10, worth a watch just to see what people are bitching about but it's storytelling over comedy

No itโ€™s honestly boring. I watched it hoping for some spicy takes, but he just jerked himself off taking about how heโ€™s such a good person and then told a sad story about his trans friend. I laughed maybe 3 times.

I got bored when he started talking about bathrooms but it's worth watching.
