"Unskilled jobs" is a jewish lie made by the GOP elites - r/antiwork

https://old.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/q0pssx/holy_crap?sort=controversial

Here's a "new" hot take from r/antiwork

This isn't what "unskilled" means. A skilled job is one that requires formal education and training. It's not something you can learn on the job or a task you simply perform. This is a pointless and distracting debate. You're getting mad over semantics of a term that simply means that the job is not one that needs in depth education or training for. This is not the hill to die on.

I would argue that many white collar jobs, like consulting, are also unskilled. They are never described as such though.

And you’d lose that argument.

why? Tell me how consulting is skilled work. Nothing you study in university matters for the job, unless you’re a specialist. This is why companies like McKinsey hire fresh grads of all majors, be it art history or engineering, as long as you got the degree from some prestigious university. Everything you need to know is learned on the job.

Do they even hire non-specialists? You still need to be a subject matter expert in a valuable field, just like how I'm a subject matter expert in White Identity Extremism. :marseycool:

Also suure art history grads are definitely valuable for the workforce when they can get mogged by anyone with at least half a brain (people who choose an employable major)

Exactly right! Unskilled my butt, takes a lot of self sacrifice to do a job that no one wants to do!

I've worked in a grocerie store, while I wouldn't say its absolutely 0 skill whatsoever its definitely way less skill requiring than any sort of computere science thing I may work on after uni

Different skills doesn't mean a lack thereof

This is such a braindead take like its not even funny. If my dumb butt can do something after an old butt unpedagogic grandma tells me how to for like 5 hours then you couldnt even possibly imagine thinking thats somehow a valuable skill compared to something that requires 5 years of full time studying. bonus meme: "its definitely way less skill requiring" and somehow you think I said there was no skill. How tf did you turn on reddit with that brain rot?

The frick you even doing here with an attitude like that?

That's your response? Because I don't hold the same values as you I am not allowed in your safe space of circlejerkers?

You're allowed here frickstick, the question is why bother? Just looking for attention and to start an argument? This sub is for pointing out we're all in this together, and making up these fake tiers between 'worker' and 'business owner' is stupid.

Just commented my thought on what I didnt exactly agree with bro. Also every business owner isnt fricking evil lmao there are obviously differences between them and putting them all under the same umbrella seems a bit ignorant...

When you come in and use words like 'circlejerkers', 'safe space', 'braindead', 'brain rot' And then 'i'm just sharing my thoughts on why I don't quite agree' and acting like you're just trying to hold a convo. There's a comic for what schmucks like you come here to do. http://wondermark.com/c/2014-09-19-1062sea.png

"theres a comic for x" lmao

So are unskilled jobs still unskilled?

Different skills doesn't mean a lack thereof

"I only know how to mop the floor" doesn't mean I have no valuable skill, it just means I have a different skill than other people and that's what makes me special

:marseyspecial:

This sub is for pointing out we're all in this together, and making up these fake tiers between 'worker' and 'business owner' is stupid.

Yes, SWEs are definitely on the same level as a floor mopper. How can you tell?

I frankly do not know much about this "sealioning" but is it another excuse for failing to provide a rebuttal? Also congrats person who is arguing with this enlightened r*dditor, you just internet argued with a random walmart associate who collects disability for a living

:marseylaugh: :marseylaugh: :marseylaugh:

Small nonprofit offices can and do exploit their workers just like any other job.

Yes the breast cancer charity definitely exploits its workers

Doctors, engineers, scientists, plumbers, electricians, welders. These a reason why jobs that require you to do work outside the job to gain skills pay more.

Yes. And they are a tiny percentage of the workforce. Also they can all be taught on the job.

Yes doctors are lazy and just need to be taught on the job. The entire 8 years of college is a jewish fraud which is of the likes of the fraud that started the shoah. The many science phds and profs are also frauds, welders are frauds, engineers just stick stuff together, electricians are literally the same as EEs but slightly less arrogant, etc.

Every engineer I work with are fricking idiots, but they have a piece of paper so they think they know more than those of us working on the floor actually doing the work. They don't, and half the time they find a solution for something it's because one of us on the floor has suggested it a long time ago and they've finally decided to try it. Every other "solution" they come up with on their own only makes things worse. For reference, I build helicopter blades. Doctors and scientists might be the only examples you have that actually make sense. The rest, people can learn on the job.

Dude trust me bro, of course engineering practices can be taught on the job! After all, engineering is when helicopter blades spin well :marseycool:

Every other "solution" they come up with on their own only makes things worse.

This antiworker baits 10x harder in one day than a dramatard could in his lifetime.

Let's just ignore the plumbers, electricians, and HVACs who needed to do an apprenticeship and still didn't feel ready for their jobs, let alone the engineers who can't make the slightest error in their work (unless they are rounding lmao). Suuure you can definitely learn 4 years of engineering on the job and not catastrophically fail.

They have no idea the work it takes to get into these fields. Honestly the trades involve proving yourself through hard work for years and plenty of book work on the side. It's pretty much like going to college. Boomers who have never swung a hammer jerk themselves off to the thought of kids being too lazy to go into the trades but in all reality shit is hard and takes a ton of dedication.

Engineering on the other hand requires at least 4 years to get a baseline knowledge then 2-3 years working with senior guys to get a feel for what works and how things are applied in the real world. Field engineers need to at least have some basic trades and equipment knowledge as well.

Dont know where im going with this just ranting a little but it is kind of upsetting when trades people and engineers get lumped in with knuckle draggers, when this is clearly not the case.

In my country you literally have to go to college to become a tradesman. Even hairdressers.

However this is largely just to extract more money from poors

Well with as much electronics and such involved in basic mechanics and metalworking techniques becoming more and more advanced I can see the necessity here. Depends on your location but many places in the United states require formal training to become a licensed cosmetologist as well

I’ve seen this all over Instagram. The people posting it are (bless their hearts) foids that have never worked a real job in their life. I remember one of my friends complaining that working 8hrs a day was complete torture and totally unfair. I always get a kick that when they compare doing a 6hr shift waiting tables 4 days a week to construction work.

It's always funny to watch people who don't understand supply and demand complain about economics.

Why are wages for unskilled jobs low? Is it because literally anyone can do them? No, it's the capitalists spreading propaganda.

Why is rent too darn high? Is it because the demand for housing is greater than supply? No, it's the landlords somehow.

Someone is touchy. When did I say "the sole factor in economic considerations is the supply curve?"

And when oil went negative, it was because no one wanted the contract on their hands. Investors were basically paying people to take delivery off their hands.

No it was mostly because we were out of storage, oil was still getting pumped (hard to lower production that fast) and there was nothing you can do to not accept delivery if you had a contract. Cushings, Oklahoma where most of US oil transits and where futures contract delivery usually takes place was hust completely full for a day or two IIRC.

That meant that oil still had value, but storage became so so so expensive and you couldnt even be sure youd have access to it became less expensive to pay for someone else to take your oil and deal with the storage than it was to get it yourself. Also a pretty dosage of speculation at the end but it still was fundamentally about supply and demand, but for storage instead of oil

This would be true if lobbying wasn't a thing. Landlords artificially keep supply low by pushing against new developments.

It's mostly NIMBY owner-occupants. (((Landlords))) would make more by building denser apartments blocks. And at the end of the day, its still supply and demand just supply is artificially constrained.

If you ask me, being able to put up with peoples' abuse through customer service is a skill, and so is having the wherewithal to stay awake during shift work.

Even if, even if, the labor is unskilled: Being able to do the job without wanting to keep yourself safe is a skill.

Might as well call washing your hands or tying your shoes "skills" as well. Personally I put things like "really good at making sure my peepee isn't out" on my resume.

99% percent of the people that call these jobs “unskilled” couldn’t do the jobs…

Funny how tailors in Savile Row and other places are men and they get paid handsomely for their work while women in sweat shops around the world get paid pennies a day a lot of the time.

I'm starting to think that the issue here isn't just that these people don't understand the distinction between skilled/unskilled work. They literally do not comprehend the concept of "skill" at all.

Yea because the sweat shops are set up in communist countries with less human rights laws. Trying to frame this as some sort of patriarchal thing where women are doing HR jobs and nursing when men do construction, surgery, all the important shit, is weird
