IDK why the original commenter is so brash about this, but this is actually true. Bacterial shit is generally curable, but there's definitely a threat of antibiotic resistant strains developing. The persistent things tend to be retroviruses that integrate with host DNA and pop back up at different points due to not well understood stimuli.
With HIV there's a bunch of treatments now that make it less of a death sentence, and there's stuff that mitigates transmission, but people acting like AIDS is cured and HIV don't matter are huffing the copium. People being declared virus free even with the expensive medical treatments are still rare enough to be news stories.

Ditto. I was in a situation similar to this with my b-word ex-wife. She was gradually trying to get me to agree to a poly relationship, and I got suspicious about how eagerly she was pushing for it. Checking her phone, I found a sext to another dude. And that's what led to my divorce. Apparently, she was trying to retroactively legitimize her cheating under the blanket of "poly."
Fortunately, I had several STD tests done afterwards and they all came back clean. If I had gotten a serious STD from that b-word's cheating, I would probably have unironically tortured her to death. I appreciate your words of support, king. But as a logical rationalist I try not to go on killing sprees unless I have nothing left to lose. The thing about killing sprees is that you generally don't get more than one, so if you decide to go for it you have to put a lot of thought and planning in how to absolutely maximize your kill count. In other words, if I'm gonna get killed resisting arrest, I wouldn't want it to be just for murdering one person who wronged me, I'd also try to blow up a nuclear plant, take out some planes, and generally cause as much death and mayhem as possible before going down.
Doing all that just because my ex-wife hurt my feelings is silly. As enjoyable as it would be to have one day of totally insane carnage, I have the resources and ability to lead a very fun life and hopefully accomplish all my goals. It would be silly to throw all that away for a short period of fun. Now if my ex-wife had taken that away with her evil narcissism, then my calculations would have to change, obviously.
