maybe they were on meds trying to get their mental health under control- psych meds have a lot of side effects like weight gain and you call them fat. so theyve resorted to doing drugs now and this happens. its a darned if you do, darned if you dont sitch with you ppl. if theyre off meds theyll be maligned and probably jailed for being “crazy” but they go on meds and you call them fat. why not be empathetic and understanding? and what do you look like? why hide it?

English is particularly problematic with written expressions of irony or sarcasm - because conveying those requires tonal / phonetic modulation, and there's no widely accepted canonical orthography for transcribing those.

So the written phrase

"Hitler was such a great guy!"

is either

"Hitler was ssssssuch a greeeeeeat guy!"

or

"HITLER WAS SUCH A GREAT GUY!"

or

"Hítlêr wãs sùch ä græt gûy!"

or

<voice cracking> "Hitler was such a great guy!" </voice cracking>

and guileful people exploit that. They exploit that people using English "speak" in their heads, write that down, and that others read it and "speak" it in their heads - and that untranscribed nuance is lost.

It's possible to be both sarcastic and funny in Written English but it needs care taken, so as to not seem to be contributing to that which is being lampooned and/or criticised.
