Epichads stay winning as r/FrickEpic copes about exclusive stealth game

I was browsing FrickEpic and decided to search up Hitman 3 takes, since that game was an EGS exclusive and sold very well. Enjoy the seethe:

https://old.reddit.com/r/frickepic/comments/nns88z/80s_g?sort=controversial*mer_rant/ I have been gaming since I was 5 and have played hundreds of games. I have always been more of a PC g*mer because I hate the concept of console wars and hidding good games behind platforms. Always thought that PC gaming culture couldn't go this bad. Now days I have made a decision not support any game series that hops into EGS wagon and brings the game wars to PC world. Currently this "lets jump to EGS" has made me not buy on release: hitman 3, Borderlands 3, control, phoenix point just name few. Some may think I'm over reacting but as an "adult" (nearing 40) I can decide not support idiotic decisions by not giving them my hard earned money. There are other games that let the platform decision be because quality not some shady exclusive stunt.

https://old.reddit.com/r/frickepic/comments/o9ixb8/hitman_3_exclusive/?sort=controversial There's a pattern with EGS exclusives, and it's an unsurprising correlation. When developers are so hard up for cash they murder future sales and community goodwill in exchange for an up front Fartnite payout, it turns out the developers are also in severe decline and have trouble with their development.

https://samagame.com/en/hitman-3-game-sales-exceed-by-300-those-of-hitman-2/ https://pcg*mer.com/uk/io-interactive-is-making-a-james-bond-game/ lol

https://old.reddit.com/r/frickepic/comments/ms4xk1/comment/guqgawm/?sort=controversial As someone who's played H3 (high seas version) in depth and an avid Hitman fan to boot, I can tell you that it's objectively bad

https://metacritic.com/game/xbox-series-x/hitman-3 :copium:

https://metacritic.com/game/pc/hitman-3/user-reviews Theres also a minor review bombing on metacritic for the PC version which looks like this:

3/10 Yes, the game is Fun. But this content is absolute ridiculous, like it could be a 20$ Dlc for Hitman 2 lol The graphics are the same in all 3 Games. i cant believe i spent 50$ and not even on steam. -Benne100069

0/10 This game is 6 hours long, Carl. 6 hours. Not to mention that theres less mechanics than in previous swries wich was outdated already - Henry_D

Utterly pathetic how the DEVS are here downvoting all the CORRECT CRITICAL REVIEWS and UPVOTING OBVIOUS 10 RATINGS

You guys know we can see, right lol??

I feel bad for this new generation of g*mers if this is what they think is the future. You're paying for an 80 dollar expansion... Wake up, that's what were **** about

Sorry we have a brain and don't want to pay for a lack of CONTENT. This has six new maps, that's it.. What a joke of a company you are Eidos

0/10 I am curious, why metacritic deletes 0 score reviews on Hitman 3. Thought i wouldn't notice this? - ddrr

0/10 EIGHTY quid for a hitman 2 DLC with only five and a third levels? - three of which are rehashes of previous content. plus not even on steam. -Ogog

0/10 I thought Cyberpunk was bad then hitman 3 arrived. Graphics are straight outta 2010 wth? Then the developers came here with fake 10s lol. - notacarebear

For those wondering the devs werent ever messing with reviews, these people are just crazy

1/10 Just mind this: YOU CAN COMPLETE THIS GAME IN UNDER A MINUTE. - JuanLuisGG14

0/10 need to rebuy hitman 1 & 2, even if you own it on steam, epig games sucks, better wait for steam release and 75% sale - XenorPlays

0/10 I've been waiting for this game for a very long time, and in the end they treated me like an animal, releasing this game in the smelly epic games - Terania

Theres also a bunch of dumb comments from positive reviews too:

10/10 People who give this game zero are literally disgusting people and should just give up gaming in general. -EldenRing

How is this even a problem? Isn't epic games just another client like steam?

G*mers hate it because Epic knew they needed to do something drastic to grab market share from Steam, bc if a game is just gonna release on Epic and Steam, people will just get it from the platform they know. So Epic was smart enough to grab exclusive distro rights to a few really in-demand titles (Epic is the only store online that sells the PC versions of Kingdom Hearts, for example, which cause HUGE mauld) so that if you want those games, you need to go thru Epic

G*mers claim to hate them for everything from Chinese influence to lack of features, but the main reason people actually mauld is bc Epic is the landchad of the videogames world and bought up a bunch of titles and charge g*mers rent

As a busy and successful man, I only have maybe twenty minutes a week to play video games (with my children, I’d never even consider doing it myself, I have real things to do). A six hour game sounds perfect. Imagine spending any more than ten hours on a video game. You could’ve had ten nice conversations with your family, or gone kayaking! Silly children.

Imagine having 20 free minutes a week to waste on video games. Personally the best I can usually do is 5.5 minutes, and I still have to watch my wife’s son while I’m playing!

The one thing that they have a point with is that 2 was better than 3, but even then because its on epic they turn it into this thing that it’s actually a terrible game and not just like an 8/10 sequel to a 9/10 game - dock one or two points off if you’re not a hardcore hitman fan. Like if it was on steam day one and the devs said we’re not putting it on epic theyd turn around and talk about how great it is that we steam users get such great games and epic doesnt

Good value if you didn't buy the first two but otherwise meh. I didn't like the entire trilogy anyway, older games were much more interesting imo

That's Blood Money, the best one in my opinion. The first two are plagued by an absolutely atrocious AI, Contracts is good though. Absolution was more like an action game, but it wasn't bad

I hope they never do another big multi game arc like this ever again. I’d gladly take longer development times if it means longer games with more variance

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

It still took them 3 years per game, using the same engine, same assets, same mechanics. If you consider 3 to be the "real" game, they spent nearly as much time on it than they did on the first five.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Thats true, but I think that they shouldnt do multi game arcs because they almost went under when the first game came out. even tho the story isnt important it would still have been such - and i use this because cant find another word because my vocabulary has been fricked these past few years - a bruh moment to play that game in hindsight knowing it doesnt go anywhere

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Yeah it was pretty lackluster. You do your six missions (lol), with a little cutscene in between and then... See ya next time. Awful.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Ah i see youre not a big replay guy. Thats fair, i think IO went too far into appealing to that aspect of the fanbase because it alienated the people who played Hitman because it was a cool stealth game. I dont think adding stuff like leveling up on a map is bad, im an advocate of it, I just think Blood Money appealed to so many people because it could be played as a decently long game the first time but still with replayability. It managed to appeal to everyone perfectly. Normies liked it because it didnt go too niche into making you replay levels, Hitman fans who like replayability liked it because it was still replayable and Hitman fans who may only replay the games every year or so liked it because it was cool and varied and had lots of levels

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Yeah I'm not big on replays anymore, I used to be when I was a kid but now I just can't be arsed, especially when games are so fricking long. It's not a problem for Hitman obviously but I'm not interested in finding out every single way to kill a dude like I might have been 10 years ago.

Like last year I tried replaying Dragon Age Inquisition but a couple hours in I remembered how massive the whole thing is and it discouraged me instantly. I tried replaying the Witcher 3 right after I completed it and I barely made it out of White Orchard before getting bored. I guess I'm just old.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I think thats why im a short game guy. I have games that i really enjoy but havent finished once like Dragon Quest VIII or Okami but Ive played Pikmin1 probably ten times

Another thing I just made a connection about. Contracts was made about the same dev timeframe as all the new Hitman sequels and has about six new levels to it but six remakes of old ones to compensate. Which does kind of sum up why it was stupid to use this format for all three games because its essentially just hitman contracts when it comes to the new stuff and dev time put in just without any remixed levels to offset it. Unless you count having the old levels which you have to pay for or get for free but youve already played them and theyre not any different. I think they couldve either for the new trilogy either done instead of six large levels or four XL levels and a medium one they couldve done eight medium levels and a large one and pleased everyone. Or have each map house two story levels each

Honestly, I don't see the point of buying games on the epic store, no, hear me out. I bought HZD and the AssCreed games on there, but there are so many games on there that I never even touched. For me it has been like, if I play the game I'd like to keep track of it, I can do that on Uplay, origin or steam via achievements game times etc. The good thing about uplay games on EGS is that they are cheaper and once you buy them you don't need to install their shitty launcher over uplay (which is semi shitty), but I digress. Anyway, when I buy a game on that store, it just sits there, I have nothing to see about it, how much I played, how much I completed, do I want to play this again? Did someone in the friends list beat my achievement records and what not. Now being a wage slave I don't have that much time to play games, mostly weekends or some free nights, but frick I want my game time to be tracked and rewarded (with achievements or something) But you get frick all from EGS other than being a regional pricing enabled cheap game store for Ubisoft.

There is no difference in pirating a game vs having it on egs for me.

Yeah I have almost all of their free games and I bought a lot of ubisoft game on there because of regional pricing but the games without achievements etc just sit there, never played them. Their $10 coupon sales were great, got HZD for like $5.

Both sides are kinda r-slurred here. G*mers are r-slurred for seething over a mild annoyance and Epic is r-slurred for running at a loss, thinking that g*mers will one day decide to switch to their store.

Hitman 3 was just okay, 2016 still remains the best one if only due to how fresh and new it felt when I played it first.

2 and 3 didn't feel the same way, I didn't even touch 2 for like 8-9 months after playing through the missions once because it just wasn't that engaging, I did eventually return to it but the magic from 2016 was gone.

Codename 47 is still the best one in the franchise and frick anyone who disagrees

Interesting, I was personally of the opinion that 2016 wasnt all that great beyond how great its mechanics were. Some of the levels werent all that great, Bangkok kinda sucked aside from some cool kills and the rocker boy and Colorado really sucked. I felt like the second game really lifted up the consistency of the quality of the level design. However that could definitely be because I got 2016 like seven months after it finished coming out, I wasnt feeling any burnout hopping into the sequel which a lot of people who had been playing since March of 2016 had. I started feeling that with the third gale instead, because thats the one that came after I had played a whole bunch of the formula already

Jump in the discussion.

I didn't enjoy 2 as much tbh, it felt like more of the same.

I also wasn't pulled by the maps, Miami felt weird because of its length going from top to bottom, I disliked Santa Fortuna because I don't like vast maps where targets are spaced out, I disliked Mumbai because it was confusing to navigate, the suit enforcers are plenty and because I generally hate street shitters and their accent, Creek felt like a padded out version of A New Life and I hated New Ark because I hate nigs and those two Washingtons were insufferable.

I genuinely enjoyed the bank level tho, I 100%ed it in the first two days and then they added extra challenges to it so I had to redo much of what I had already done which burned me out but the level felt more like classic Hitman than any level in the rebooted franchise (even now with 3).

I was suffering from burnout by the time the island level came out but it was still solid.

Compared to 2 and 3, every level in 2016 felt special (probably because I was hungry for Hitman) but even today 2016 maps would be around the top of my map list if I had made one.

Shoutout to longpost bot.

Yeah interesting takes. I cant exactly fault any of that since thats basically just how they are as levels objectively. I liked most of them. I feel like as much as some people on the reddit complain about smaller maps in 3 people also complained about big maps in 2. So it seemed like both a cost cutting measure and responding to criticism and toning it down for the third game. It’s hardly like levels are all Hawkes Bay sized, theyre at least bigger than the bank

I enjoyed mostly every level in 3 besides Mendoza, something about it made me dislike it.

The England map was the biggest missed opportunity in the franchise because Diana basically spells out the murderer for you and it hindered my enjoyment immensely.

Though I was taken by surprise when the target dropped dead from poison without any input from my side, that was literally the coolest moment I've experienced in the rebooted franchise ever.

The n1 coolest moment ever was the entirety of H2SA's final level after not playing that game for around 10 years, the soundtrack for the level is sublime and you can cut the tension with a knife.

Berlin was also pretty tense, cool and unique but it loses its charm after the first playthrough.

I'm neutral with Dubai, it's okay but nothing special.

C47 still remains my favorite and it's not even nostalgia talking, I played that one last after completing 2-Absolution throughout the span of 6-7 years.

There's a certain kind of atmpsphere none of the games after it managed to capture, my first playthrough was the most fun I've had with a Hitman game ever.

I never got around to playing Codename because its so dated. If someone released like a mod that makes it run like a normal game i’d play it

I personally loved Berlin and Mendoza, really liked England, but thought China and Dubai were okay. I think Dubai suffers from not being big and interesting as Paris or Miami but not as small and dense as New York. Because it’s trying to be both an event level like the first two but also a smaller building level like the latter

England I think Alexa is a great target but the rest of the level feels lifeless. Not much happens and the other characters dont move around much, only the target and the detective. Still shes got great scripting, I love that she has two different loops depending on your start point. Berlin I love how sandboxy and manipulatable it is and how many targets you have and that they fight back. China to me is disappointing because i was expecting more of a crowded city map where youre going into building occupied by a gang, instead it’s extremely hinged on the story with you going up against ICA people and the targets arent interesting. It looks really pretty and I love the verticality but it’s probably my least played mission unless it gets a reskin with new targets and NPCs like Sapienza got

Mendoza is really good to me. I just like both targets and think the location is nice. I dont take elusives into account when judging if I like the level but Mendoza’s have both been really good and used the space well. I think thats a thing which has helped the levels grow on me is that theyve made new stuff for them like that garden show for dartmoor. I like the train level honestly it’s fun to shoot things and hitman has always ended with an action level so i didnt mind other than i wish it was after a real sixth level

the entirety of H2SA's final level

C47 still remains my favorite

Some guy on the Hitman subreddit eagerly wanted to play C47 so I screenshotted him my controls and explained to him all the dings to watch out for while playing and he said he ended up having a great time, too bad I nuked that account's history to frick with some random subreddit.

It is a rough game and I did spend an hour or two modifying controls and getting familiar with how they worked ingame but after that the overall feel and atmosphere, level design and especially the soundtrack (best in the franchise bar none) made for an excellent experience in my case.

It does have one of the best soundtracks of the series, up there with II: Silent Assassin. The new guy is good too he’s gotten better and better as he goes along. The Codename 47 soundtrack is really great because it goes full electronic where the sequels will go into more cinematic sounds like orchestra and choir, so C47 has the catchiest tunes. Silent Assassin’s is some of the best too because it does go into that full orchestra, so im not knocking it, i can still hum a lot of that game’s songs too like the Japan duh nuh nuh duh nuh nuh nuh and Russia’s duh nah nah nah nah nah nah
