β€œ They" has been used as a singular pronoun since Shakespearean times but ok please tell us more about how you don't know jack about grammar 1

They was Kangz

my brother in christ you do know we've used "they" and "them" as singular pronouns for like.. centuries right

it is quite literally basic english and when you constantly make this joke all you do is broadcast you didn't ever pass 2nd grade english class 2

Friggen centuries until the REPUBLICANS came along and ruined everything

They/them has been used as a singular in the English language of multiple countries, including the U.S., for hundreds of years.

Also anyone who pays for anything to Twitter, check mark or β€œsuper follow” should be relentlessly made fun of.

>retconning history to own the chuds.

Yes it has been used before the great tumblr gender confusion. but extremely rarely.

Among all the books and films that came out before 2005, how often do you estimate was a singular "they" used compared to "he"/"she"/"it"? I'd say less than 1 : 10000.

Usage being rare doesn't make it ungrammatical, wtf are you on about.

You're not wrong but the way it's been used in the context of enbies is pretty r-slurred, just look at some of the articles on Ezra Miller for example.

Bringing up usage is fricking r-slurred. Style guides and dictionaries prescribe grammar, and they/their is the literal opposite of one/one's. It's called a usage problem, and the erosion of language shouldn't be cited as proof as to why fortuitous now means lucky, flaccid is pronounced without a k sound, and we can refer to antecedent individuals as 'that'.

English stopped existing after everyone forgot how to use the word 'whence'.

What :marseypregunta: the frick :marseyroxsneed: are you even talking about? Usage has nothing to do with style guides or dictionaries. They're two completely different things. And how the frick :marseyroxsneed: is "they/their" the opposite of "one/one's"? That makes no fricking :marseytom: sense.

You're just :marseyblops2chadcel2: a fricking :marseytom: idiot :marseybootlicker: who doesn't know  what :marseywtf2: they're talking about. So frick :marseyfuckyou: off and leave the rest :marseytombstone: of us alone.

It’s it just a replacement for having to say β€œhe or she”?

Jump in the discussion.

Hmm... people who want you to use "they" pronouns get angry when you call them "he or she".

A better way to say "he or she" in text (unrelated to cluster B enbies) would be "sHe", "s*he" or "s:he", similar to how German wokies handle their heavily gendered language.

IMHO "s:he" is the most aesthetically pleasing option.
