Economist Demonstrates Marx Was Launched by 1917 Russian Revolution; Twittards and Marxoids Screech, Cope, and Seethe

Phil Magness has spent the last several days being inundated by leftoid sneed after publishing a paper in a top econ journal, the Journal of Political Economy, demonstrating that positive citations and overall academic influence for Karl Marx skyrocket after 1917, when the Soviets seized Russia, and that this effect is robust relative to a synthetic control (a standard modern econometric test). Despite their frequent sneering jibes against "muh free marketplace of ideas," Twitter leftoids took this as a grave affront: surely Marx must be so influential because he's a unique giga-brain genius who won out on sheer intellectual brilliance! Jeet Heer, John Ganz, and Jamelle Bouie have all taken turns seething at Phil over this, along with many others - Phil's Twitter timeline is a goldmine of sneethe, if you care to dig in.

Marx was unironically a complete fricking hack. His (Engel's) only genuine contribution to sociology was to point out that rich buttholes tend to stick together to perpetuate their position in society.

the labor theory of value is the gift that keeps on giving. its a good way to identify rslurs that belief digging and refilling a ditch has inherent value. then again, judging by how fat westerners are these days, maybe marx was right all along.

LOL. Trotsky had his feet kicked up in NY during his exile from Russia on the dime of some wealthy benefactor. He was then given and allowed transport through Canada back into Russia where he was exiled from. A known revolutionary.

After WW1 Lenin, also a known revolutionary, was allowed passage on a train from Germany back into Russia. The whole original Communist revolution was entirely allowed and encouraged too happen by powerful and wealthy Western influences

I dont disagree but why did Trotksy's Wall Street benefactors support him and why was he allowed by the English monarchy to pass through Canada despite knowing who he was?

The tsar was already overthrown by that point and the new Russian government was agitating for his release.

Your statistical method is flawed, here's a short list of pre-1917 economists who cited Marx, which is a sound method for proving his influence is independent of the Russian revolution.

Why are twittoids so mad at the idea that Marx became more popular when Russia implemented communism based off his ideas? Am I getting this wrong?

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

A core tenet of marxism is that the ideas like historical progression are more than correct, they are inevitable laws of nature.

If Marx only became popular because of the soviet revolution (a revolution that wasn't accurate to marx's predictions) rather than because people independently realized that marx was correct it makes marx's laws look bad, I guess?

Jump in the discussion.

You're right. And plus also, all of the critical theories stem from Marx. So they really need Marx to be right.

I hate post war critical theories more than old school economical/political Marxism itself tbh

How it started: workers of the world unite

How it's going: the nuclear family and age of consent are an hetero-patriarchal structures :marseypedo:

While true, the first victim of critical theory was Marxism. I still see a lot of liberal capitalists about, but when was the last time the left helped someone who's ever held a wrench?

Minor post Riccardian economically, but a big deal sociologically. Luther didn't found the church of England but he started the process type shiet

The test Marxian economics fails is simple. Labor theory of value cannot explain more than prices in a one sector economy. It is a special case that cannot be generalized.
