Socialised health care systems are fully shit, full stop. I still pay for mine and other people's healthcare with the insane amounts of taxes I pay and would rather pay for a decent private plan or at least have the option.
Doctors and nurses lose because they have to beg the government for decent pay. We have doctors and nurses leaving en masse to work in the USA where they'll actually make money, leaving us with hospitals staffed with doctors and nurses trained in India or Africa who barely speak English.
The document also suggests that approximately nine out of 10 Ontario residents seeking hospital treatment in an emergency room waited up to 33.4 hours for an inpatient bed in August 2022, which officials say is a 54 per cent increase compared to August 2021.

The hospital shortage is entirely because of butt-headed bureaucrats and policy makers. They have 1 hospital in Brampton serving 600,000 people in the city + probably another 600,000 in the surrounding area. Meanwhile, the natives near Thunder Bay are delaying a $600,000,000+ hospital from being built because the construction companies won't hire any of the indigenous locals to work. Why? Because those natives refuse to buy insurance that's required to work. Also, that $600,000,000 dollar hospital is going to only serve about 60,000 people when it's built.

I grew up in Brampton but left 20 years go because of how literally r-slurred it is now. Brampton was full of Scottish and Portuguese ppl when I grew up there in the 80s now it's Punjabi-ville. But each major city has multiple hospitals, different institutions running each one (though corporate type consolidation is a problem). Either way the issue is that ER docs are terrified of yeeting anyone out of the waiting room for fear of a lawsuit no matter how stupid the reason for being there, and some morons are apparently willing to wait there for 12 hrs to get benadryl.

As an expat leaf Iβve had the luxury of experiencing healthcare systems in multiple OECD countries and I am confident that Canada has one of the worst.
And whatβs even worse is that when you mention any sort of privatization or systematic overhaul of the healthcare system to other leafs, itβs like youβve committed heresy. Leafs think itβs their fundamental duty to protect the single-payer system at all costs to the point that theyβve lost sight of the fundamental goal of universal healthcare, which is to deliver the most effective care possible.
Whenever I mention on /r/Canada or /r/CanadaPolitics that european countries like the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium and Germany thrive on private or mixed-private systems, the excuse always the same. Provincial health authorities will just sell the healthcare system to the Irvingβs or some shit, provincial health authorities canβt be trusted to privatize healthcare in good faith.
Itβs hard to make a system better when people have resigned themselves to βour healthcare may be shit but at least itβs not as bad as how Michael Moore presented American healthcare in Sickoβ.
Just sad overall really, and horrible leafcare is why Iβm hesitant to ever return.
