The most fun thing to do these days is ask people with views like this why they aren't out in the streets killing. If I actually, genuinely believed that a fascist takeover of America was inevitable on the horizon, as they all claim to believe, I'd be arming up and training asap. For some reason, your average lib who "believes so heavily in the sanctity of democracy" doesn't feel the same way I do.

Paradox of tolerance is the perfect excuse.
You can just forever expand the definition of 'intolerance' and shut down any speech.
Liberals being intolerant of conservatives, people who are religious, wealthy people, etc? They should be censored to protect society. Or maybe only 'extreme intolerance' should be censored? Then just start calling everything 'extremist' like they call everything 'genocide' and 'fascism'.
But more importantly tolerance isn't the only goal of society. The paradox reduces the problem to one thing. Freedoms, public discourse, not 'chilling speech', preventing abuse by authority figures, etc. There's tons of factors involved. Just like speed limits, -10mph works, why not reducing by -50mph? 1% of welfare to people helps, why not 50%?
