Jump in the discussion.

No one is saying you offer them a full course meal outside lunch/dinner hours, you neurodivergent. You simply ask them if they are hungry and grab them a snack if they are otherwise you invite them to dinner/lunch if you are about to eat. Scandicels are so subhuman, they tell kids to watch them eat dinner whilst over at their house during dinner time.

This is about offering someone a meal - like a sandwich or dinner, not snacks and beverages. Snacks and beverages aren't food, food is food you fricking fat lard burger, and it's very strange to offer someone food unless you're also having food

it's fine if you think it's weird but surely you can see the advantage of generosity, yes? Even if you're 100% selfish/cynical/calculating (which i don't think Scandinavians are) then you can argue that generosity enhances one's standing in the community, and builds friendships and connections. And most people enjoy giving. It feels good.

Again, it's fine if you find it strange but I don't understand why you're actively opposed to it.

It's a class thing where I live. With poor people, you can just go into a friend's pantry and help yourself to any non-expensive food (Weet-bix, toast, etc). With middle class people, you can have something if you ask. With rich people, you can't have anything.

I got blindsided when a rich relative invited me over around dinner time once and their family started eating dinner. I went to grab a taco thinking I was invited for dinner only to get told "oh there's none for you". I was basically expected to sit there and watch them eat their meal.

This behavior would be considered weird in the US, even hostile if people didn't know me. but oh well. It's how I am.

I used to work in a kitchen so I'm good at cleaning, and don't mind doing it. And I like cooking. Now if someone didn't contribute any labor at all, I would condemn them as a neckbeard. But i'm not a neckbeard. I'm a psychopath, but not a neckbeard. God forbid.

The guest right is a sacred law of hospitality, especially in the north.[3] When a guest, be he commonborn or noble, eats the food and drinks the drink off a host's table beneath the host's roof, guest right is invoked. Bread and salt are traditional provisions.[4]

When invoked, neither the guest nor the host can harm the other for the length of the guest's stay.[1] For either to do so would be to break a sacred covenant that is believed to invoke the wrath of the gods, both old and new. Even robber lords and wreckers are bound by the ancient laws of hospitality.[5]

It is sometimes customary for a host to give guest gifts to the departing guests when they leave the host's dwellings; this usually represents the end of the sacred guest right.[5][7] In addition, visiting guests will sometimes offer their host guest gifts as gratitude for giving them food and shelter.[8][9]
