You forget how dumb some poor people can be.

You really underestimate how lazy the inner cities of America are.

And you get the :marseypoor: shaming, but not without the :marseylongpost: to counter it

Highly doubt people are going to use snap/ebt to order door dash. They already get so little money monthly and I’m pretty sure you can’t buy prepared food anyway— just groceries. (Even then you’re only allowed specific items/brands, you can’t just buy whatever you want. I can’t see people paying all those extra fees and things just to have groceries delivered.

You’re wrong about the “so little money”. I owned a store for a while and whenever someone came in with ebt their balance would show on the receipts. We had copies of every single receipt an ebt transaction was used on and we rarely got anybody in with less than $1300 on their card. Most I saw was over $12,000 on this woman with 7 kids who came in almost daily and all they bought were snacks and frozen food. Ebt applies for uncooked food. Idk how it’s done elsewhere but California food benefits are abused to heck and back. We even had people trying to buying cigarettes with their ebt-cash it was sad. I always took their card away and called the benefits department to report them. I know people who have been denied ebt/snap and to see people who receive it misuse it is sickening.

People like you make me sick. You are talking straight out of your butt. You’re one of those people who thinks poor people should always be suffering. How dare you try to police what people buy? Seriously— why do you think you have the right to decide who gets the freedom to choose what they want to eat? The gov’t already does that. I’ve actually worked in grocery stores and know people who have received gov’t assistance— people can only buy certain types/brands of food (if we were out, they were shit out of luck). The majority of people who receive gov’t assistance are employed, or disabled but don’t receive gov’t disability/SSI, children and elderly people.

You probably don’t even own a store because you talk like someone who has no experience with people who receive benefits outside of what Fox News tells you. I truly hope you’re lying about calling and reporting people. You’re not with them 24/7. How dare they buy a snack or something that’s not on your arbitrary list of things poor people do or don’t deserve. The majority of people who receive government benefits work and pay taxes. Even if they don’t, they’re still paying sales tax and contributing just like you. They deserve help if they qualify for it— they’ve been supporting others with their taxes.

I feel awful for everyone who has to encounter you. There’s already so much shame and guilt that people who receive help carry around because of the constant judgement from random people every time they’re at a register. Complete strangers eyeing their purchases and making insulting comments because a single working mom decided to buy her kids a treat or something.

It’s the same bullshit conservative mantra of shaming people for “handouts”. They aren’t even handouts because again, these people work and pay taxes too. Your fake story and made up figures don’t square with reality. Instead of going to war against poor people, why don’t you direct that hatred towards literal billionaires/millionaires who have paid ZERO dollars in taxes instead of someone receiving $200 a month in food stamps.

Actual sources backing up my claims: (I won’t hold my breath for yours because they don’t exist.)

The national state averages for SNAP benefits is $239 a month. Alaska and Hawaii are the only two states where the average is over $300.

The wealthiest Americans pay little to no income tax: https://www.propublica.org/article/the-secret-irs-files-trove-of-never-before-seen-records-reveal-how-the-wealthiest-avoid-income-tax

”ProPublica has obtained a vast trove of Internal Revenue Service data on the tax returns of thousands of the nation’s wealthiest people, covering more than 15 years. The data provides an unprecedented look inside the financial lives of America’s titans, including Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Rupert Murdoch and Mark Zuckerberg. It shows not just their income and taxes, but also their investments, stock trades, gambling winnings and even the results of audits.”

”Taken together, it demolishes the cornerstone myth of the American tax system: that everyone pays their fair share and the richest Americans pay the most. The IRS records show that the wealthiest can — perfectly legally — pay income taxes that are only a tiny fraction of the hundreds of millions, if not billions, their fortunes grow each year.”

“Most Families That Received SNAP Benefits in 2018 Had At Least One Person Working. About a Third of Families Who Received Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Benefits Had Two or More People Working.”

https://www.census.gov/library/stories/2020/07/most-families-that-received-snap-benefits-in-2018-had-at-least-one-person-working.html

”SNAP provides food assistance benefits to a diverse group of low-income individuals. In an average month, close to two-thirds of SNAP participants are children, elderly, and people who receive disability benefits and are not expected to work. In an average month, about 35 percent of participants are non-elderly adults who do not meet the strict criteria to receive disability benefits, most of whom have children, according to SNAP administrative data.”

”SNAP participation among non-disabled adults is often short term, but those who receive SNAP for longer periods still work most of the time. Nearly two-thirds (64 percent) of the adults who participated in SNAP at some point over the roughly 3.5-year period that this part of our analysis examined received it for a total of less than two years. Regardless of how long these adults participated in SNAP, however, they worked in the majority of months in which they received SNAP assistance. Over one-third of non-disabled adults worked in every month they participated in SNAP.”

”SNAP participants who are consistently out of work often face barriers to work or have caretaking responsibilities. About one-quarter of adults who participated in SNAP in a given month in 2012 did not work within a year. Of those adults, most cited caretaking responsibilities or health conditions as the reasons they were not working. These adults were also more likely to lack a high school degree or to report a work-limiting health condition than those who worked. (While this analysis is limited to adults who do not receive disability benefits, many individuals with significant impairments and other health conditions that limit their ability to work do not receive such benefits.)”

”Government disability benefits, such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), have stringent criteria that limit benefits to individuals with serious long-lasting disabilities. As a result, many individuals with impairments and health conditions do not receive disability benefits, and those who apply for such benefits can face a lengthy application and appeals process. While this paper uses the phrase “non-disabled” to describe individuals not receiving disability benefits, many of these individuals have impairments that limit their ability to work or to perform other everyday tasks.”

:marseyconfused: He’s not? I’ve always associated him with Tatcher and Reagon.

Now if you defined Mises as the basic right wing, then yeah, on that scale Milton Friedman would be center/center-left. Is that you meant?

Yeah I guess its my fault for thinking you were saying he was far right or extreme or something like that. Since lots of leftybucks think like reagen, thatcher, ayn rand, and friedman are basically uber ancaps

Nah just reintriduce slavery. If you refuse to pull your weight, the State will make you. And if there's one thing we've learned from activists, slavery is only bad when it's based on race.

The Soviets survived with one of the weakest economies ever by threatening everyone with a gulag. Imagine what we could with one of the strongest?

Friedman wasn't even really in favour of a negative income tax. He just th me it was a preferable alternative to the current (at the time) welfare system

Also he was like 5'1. He opinion is irrelevant

UBI would never work anyway because the first thing that would happen after is additional progressive benefits, I.E. welfare again.

Yea it wouldn't be 12 hours before some r-slur burned thru all their money and starts sobbing snd blubbering about "i gots to feed muh babies!"

i think literally every "UBI" trial in the US has been means tested. They'll never actually do it properly because r-slurred lefties are literally incapable of allowing "rich" people to benefit as well.

Point being a UBI system requires ideological purity, and that purity would break down immediately in a democracy. The first time a poor person got hungry, food stamps would be back and now we're back to where we were before with even more income redistribution.

Yeah I'd rather just give people a lump sum to frick off. I don't care if they spend it all on doordash or drugs. If they run out that's on them
