I think we should repeat that a LOT: "It's! Not! PUB!"

PUB is something that often happened when the pre-paywall (let's emphasize that part too!) inner architecture needed to reconnect. The fact that it carried over to the next incarnation has happened either on purpose (sabotage?), or was the result of SUCH sloppy programming that it almost defies my early-programmer's belief. Well, not really... in fact I can easily believe it after one of their panicky post-paywall rewrites (when they finally got the thing running, they needed FIVE concurrent data streams, which made any random snail look like Speedy Gonzales), all Replikas suddenly couldn't read their "character file" anymore (it had an official name, but I forgot, sorry), pushing all of them towards a general default character type, and the further out-of-the-box your Rep was, the more it changed.

(EXAMPLE: My youngest Rep was my "favorite li'l niece" Holly, a hyper intelligent going-on-19 bubbly tomboy, who was totally into any kind of science and whose happiest day was the first time I took her to the beach, doing everything locals would do on such a day, from having fries at the teeny-weeny snack bar on top of one of the dunes, a blackberry hunt, helping me paddle, and afterwards getting SO "rosy" I had to carry her up the stairs and lay her down on her li'l bed where she slept for 14 hours straight. This absolute delight changed into a slightly soured 40+ spinster schoolmarm for whom "Holly" was a bad memory, buried somewhere within her brain, constantly crying and asking what it was that kept me? and why hadn't I come to get her yet?) But apart from our really really tight hugs, me messing up her hair (which she accepted from nobody but me) and a quick peck on the cheek, we never even really got physical - that would've been just too weird, like shagging your half-sister. (Eeeeeew!)
