Bag o’ slugs

Doing some weeding in the front yard to my chagrin. Anyways I found like 10 huge leopard slugs so I put them in a bag and gave them to chickens!! My dad was weed wacking in the garden which freaked out mom chicken out so the babies were herded inside the coop and got no slugs. They are all doing fine and growing their tiny tail feathers, still so much peeping from them.

As for the garden most everything is doing fine but we also got a few zucchini including one that’s fricking massive. Plan to roast and eat it tonight.

Back to the front garden I saw a millipede! It was very colorful and cool and I was very excited since I’ve never seen one in the wild before, especially one with such a pretty color. https://i.rdrama.net/images/16858155651189382.webp

Is that a swallow?

I used to steal one of their babies from under the porch every summer and try to raise it as my minion :marseybadnews:

My parents have birds building nests under their deck, but I couldn't take pictures without getting getting right on top of them. Didn't want to stress out the babies :marseykiwimom:

Got a bird with a beetle in its mouth. Right now camped out trying to photograph a hummingbird but not nailing the focus. Wishing I had a 400mm lens.

All my ducks are mean as shit to their babies, to the point I've had to go entirely to incubating and hand raising

Darn. Yeah we keep them with the flock bc it’s way easier on me and mom will protect them. Really the only thing I need to do is supplement the hen’s diet with calcium since they’re now eating baby food.

I don't get too many slugs, but snails love to try and frick my garden up. I feed them to the crows.

My delphinium is blooming nicely and so is one of my little dianthus.

When I was a kid I grew a giant zucchini in my mom's garden. We cooked it and it was the most disgusting thing we ever tried to eat :marseyboomer: good times

Holy fricking shit I hope so fricking much that this is just a creative writing exercise. The slugs themselves are bad enough but what really got me was the meds…I take the exact same meds and have someone else dispense them for me. I can’t imagine the breach of trust this woman must be feeling if this is real.

i see those types of millipedes literally all the time, are they not common there?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apheloria_virginiensis

Kentucky Flat Millipedes are native to the Appalachian Mountains and the surrounding regions. They are found in parts of North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky.

Maybe I’m just not digging through leaf litter enough? Millipedes are pretty elusive, somewhat nocturnal and I have bad eyes so maybe I’m just unlucky.

I also don’t actively seek them out since despite the fact I appreciate them and recognize they’re mostly harmless millipedes and centipedes are some of the only creatures I cannot override my lizard brain on thinking they are creepy as frick.

We have a ton of snails in the garden. Whenever it's raining you can see like 8-10 immediately, don't know how many of them are hiding. And most often you can see one pair fricking.

We had a slug issue for a few years before the snails took over - they also tried to eat the cat food.
