R/Doordash orders drama. Users do not take kindly to criticism of how people with disabilities are treated.

https://old.reddit.com/r/doordash/comments/143t7w4/warning_to_those_with_disabilities?sort=controversial

OP is a disabled individual who suffers hearing problems when they have a flare-up. They put in the delivery instructions for their dasher to text rather than call them. The dasher calls, then doesn't deliver the majority of their order when they don't hear the phone ring. Doordash support refuses to issue a full refund to the customer, prompting OP to post a warning to other disabled folks.

The Top Comment and some replies

ETA for everyone asking “b-b-b-bUt WhY sHoUlD dOoRdAsH ETA for everyone asking “b-b-b-bUt WhY sHoUlD dOoRdAsH rEfUnD?”...Paying for something and NOT getting it OR your money back is THEFT. Period. What other business you just give them money and not get anything? Do you do that a lot in your life? You go to Target to buy toothpaste and the cashier asks you a question you don’t hear so they just take the toothpaste back and after you paid for it? And don’t give you your money back?

...There's a large chunk of drivers in this sub who should not be employed in any job that deals with customers in any way. Ever.

Tbh, you have to be borderline stupid to do the job. The overwhelming majority of drivers lose money after gas and vehicle deprecation.

One Commenter decides OP is probably lying and drama ensues

Slapfight 1

The OP is just emphasizing and exaggerating about a disability to get sympathy and it didn’t work. You can’t believe everything that people post to be 100% accurate.

Yeah, you're right, people with disabilities are nothing more than fairytales, drivers not paying attention to notes is fabricated nonsense, and everybody knows that gig economy customer support is equivalent to that of 5 star hotels. Get your head out of your aluminum foil-lined butthole.

I used to have a lot more sympathy for people with disabilities until I worked in an assisted living for disabled adults. On one hand they say they don’t want to be looked at any differently than able bodied people, BUT most of the residents at our facility were extremely entitled and used their disability for everything you could imagine. I could tell you one story after another, but you wouldn’t believe it unless you dealt with it yourself on a daily basis...

You're trying desperately to discredit someone you don't know over something you have no reasonable suspicion of being false nor a motive to care. That's equally sad as a scenario where this dude actually is fabricating the entire story.

So you believe every story that every person posts on here? Or just the ones that are wronged because they say they are “disabled”. If the driver arrived like OP says, why wasn’t the order left at the door? Instead the driver just happens to drop somebody’s ID? You are a fool if you believe this big fake sob story.

It's like someone bet you a year's salary saying you couldn't get on the Internet and argue like a complete idiot with a straight face, and you're desperate to prove them wrong...

Yeah whatever gibberish you are trying to deflect with makes no sense. Go check out OP’s (aka transmac/his/their/hers/works 3 jobs) posts and comments history. Very far from being disabled!

And later...

The OP is not deaf or disabled, just throwing that term around for sympathy. He/she/they are a liar and a con artist!

Slapfight 2

If you couldn’t “hear at all” that day, how did you have several lengthy conversations with customer service? I think there is more to this story than you are saying.

Next time learn about how Deaf and HoH people communicate before leaving stupid fricking comments like this that show you have not one iota of an understanding of how we TALK in various ways

You ought to take a look at OP’s posts and comments on his/their account! Far from disabled! Sounds like the transmasc is pretty active and able bodied, but occasionally throws the word disabled around when it’s convenient to them/him/it/her. All of you gullible bleeding hearts have been fooled by OP’s post

And after taking a look at your comment history with your own unsubstantiated personal anecdotes you seem like you're desperate to hate on disabled people no matter what because you've already made up your mind that as a whole, "we're entitled"...

People feel it is OP's Fault

Doordash doesn’t give full refunds to people who have history of refunds. Your account is flagged from previous complaints . You got away with it many times . Just be happy it lasted that long.

OP definitely seems like a seasoned complainer

The real question here is how much did you tip?

If you're hard of hearing, so much so you didn't hear your phone ring, how would you hear a text notification ? It just seems odd you would have a better chance of hearing that then a full ringtone. I'd also have my phone right in front of me if I knew there was a chance I might not hear it ring...

Is OP Making Unhealthy Choices?

So this was for alcohol?? Just curious, cause I have an autoimmune disease, and drinking is about the worst thing you can do to your immune system..

No, my order was apparently bundled with an alcohol order. Mine was just food!

Bc god forbid disabled people do something fun even if it’s not ideal for their health. Sure, non disabled people can black out every night but how dare disabled people want one glass of wine!!! /s

Isn’t smoking weed and concentrates also bad for autoimmune diseases?

Probably best not to drink alcohol if you have such a condition. That can only cause more damage. Maybe time to reflect on what you’re putting in your body

Being chronically ill because you don’t respect your body isn’t a good look.

This sub is FULL of entitled “self employed” “hard workers” who always do everything right who can’t understand why nobody respects their hard work… let’s be crystal clear, you are paid to stand in line for somebody else. Get over yourself… you don’t deserve a $30 tip for driving 5 miles and nobody cares about your lifestyle, that’s your problem.

This sub is the precise reason I stopped using this service a long time ago and I can’t wait till every driver is replaced by a robo-taxi with no feelings and no drama.

Door dash customers are way worse than the drivers.

Neighbor, you’ve never used a delivery service in your life or are you talking about redditoids that order Doordash 14 times a week?

I my last job would give people door dash / Uber eats credits while everyone was fully remote during the pandemic.

Dear god. I gave up after the second one and would just pick up the food myself. I don’t want to double the price of the food and have it be cold anyway

I drove a little for doordash. The money sucks because A. You dont get paid for waiting B. Its your car and youre degrading it C you get penalized for reviews you cant see or orders you refuse or not picking up the phone in 30 seconds.

The only condolence is that the customers are poorcels ordering fast food of all things and are likely paying doordash $10 in fees for every $4 that goes to the driver

Really, their car was going to depreciate anyway. You get more of your money's worth out of it by driving more, given it's more likely to get totaled in an accident or rust out by age than by excessive mileage (unless it's a kia/Hyundai).

My spare car was driven 100 miles in the past year. It mostly depreciated from age and the economy -- putting 20,000 miles more on it wouldn't have made a meaningful difference in the value.

Edit: just checked. Current private party value is $19,859. If I increase the mileage by 20k, the value is 17,665. If i keep the mileage accurate but go one model year older, $16,617. There's no new features between the two years.

... when did i say i didn't have a garage?

Jump in the discussion.

If you start it at least once a month then it will barely age while in a garage. You'll just need to get the tires replaced if you leave it in there for over a year.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

It's still going to lose value just from age.

Being one year older would drop the value more than having 20k extra miles.

Either way you cut it, a car will average cost X cents per mile as well as depreciation from age of vehicle. This is a direct cost to the doordash driver in addition to commercial insurance, increased probabilty of accidents, and dealing with the irs.

Everyone benefits if doordash employees quit before making $500 however before irs reporting requirements factor in

people who use door dash are either too fat to control their fast food urges or too r-slurred to cook by themselves. I pray that one day all the vc money dries up for these online delivery services and the price skyrockets to make these people homeless or, god willing, eat less. Anyone acting high and mighty because they want the last bit of human interaction removed from their soy delivery network should kill themselves.

idk man sometimes people order doordash after working late as frick, there’s nothing wrong with making shit easy.

granted most people just use it to constantly feed their goyslop addiction when they could eat a sandwich or God forbid, miss a meal but yeah.

the one time I've ever door dashed was after I was super tired one night from studying. It took thirty minutes to arrive, was cold when it did, and the person who handed it to me was some fat woman who let out a comical sigh when I "only" tipped her ~20%. So the "convenience" service was more expensive, took longer than making something anyway, and was less healthy than what I would make myself. Maybe I just had a bad experience but ever since then I just keep deli meat and eggs in my refrigerator to eat whenever I want and I can't imagine that anyone is so time stressed that they can't make a sandwich or crack an egg

I've used it when heading out of state for work. I'm not gonna go shopping for groceries that night, I'd rather have a dropout in an Altima deliver me some buffalo wild wings while i unpack.

It's not much different form ordering delivery from a restaurant over the phone, except for the fact that since the order is all done digitally there's a much smaller chance of my order getting fricked up.

I really only order 2-3 times a month and typically only when there's coupon available so the prices end up being about the same as pre-mark up.

Only time I used it was when work sent me to Baltimore and I didn't want to mingle with dinnertime rowdies. Paid 0% tip and had them leave it at the hotel front desk so I don't have to even see them.

I disagree with you on only idiots doing the job. I have an MBA from one of the best business schools in the nation, run a successful business, and do this as a side gig to pay for vacations and pad my IRA. My accountant assures me that I am making solid money doing it. There are ways to do it right and ways to do it wrong. Unfortunately, there are plenty of drivers in the latter category.

Brainless take. I'm going to hop into my Rolls-Royce, with my iPhone 14 Pro Max in my Gucci man-purse, and drive to the olive garden while using my Apple Vision Pro headset for directions. I'll wait in the parking lot while having my back massaged, and will tell the highschooler to throw it in the trunk. I'll drive home, eat a quarter of it, and give the rest to my pibbles. This way, no poorcel delivery drive will get a dime from me.

I’ve only ever ordered from a delivery app when I get a bonus from my credit card to do so, but I do use Instacart a decent amount. 30% chance of getting a nice attentive guy that makes you kinda sad wondering why he’s working the job, and a 70% chance of getting the dumbest sloppiest people that couldn’t hack it with one of those minimum wage machines

I order lunch like 3-4 times a week because my work pays for it. My Doordash instructions are literally "LEAVE FOOD AT THE FRONT DOOR OF BUILDING DOOR DOES NOT HAVE CODE."

In 2 years of ~3 orders a week, one. ONE. Driver has actually done that. Literally every single other delivery ever has called me, texted me, or tried to call me on the code box, while standing at the door for upwards of 5 minutes waiting for me to come out or give them the door code.
