(+1154) I knew a kid just like this in Florida. He would say all kinds of things and security would drag him away as he wildly flailed and screamed every few days. He supposedly "could not help it" because he was on the spectrum and had tourettes (bullshit).

He was in an after school club I ran. One day he went on a rant about how he would r*pe dead girls if he could, and I snapped and told him to get out. I didn't care if his parents were going to complain, or admin would be upset. I told him he was banned from the club. I still have no idea if I was even allowed to.

The kid, who is normally cocky as frick and calls everyone slurs, was ghost white and walked out. He came to my classroom a few days later and apologized. I ripped into him for a good 5 minutes. He begged to be allowed back into the club, because all his friends were in it. I told him if I ever heard him say another slur or nasty thing, he was gone for good.

For the rest of that year, he never said a single inappropriate comment. Turns out he could control it after all!

So many of these kids are just enabled by their parents and the system.

While the education system may have helped better himself, there's several factors at play.

• ⁠His parents were more concerned with his happiness than his well-being, a factor that strongly indicates low socio-economic status. Families that can't provide for their children's happiness directly often try to make up for it by shielding them from consequences.

• ⁠The state of mental health access in this country is atrocious and there's still a huge stigma that prevents people from accessing it in the first place.

• ⁠Lack of upward mobility and clear lack of consequences for those at the top is leading to collapse of general trust in society and rejection of its norms in pursuit of getting yourself ahead at any cost.

Poor? Mental care? Ah yass chuddie wuddie. We need more money for dem programs (for white "people" this time? Wack.) and free healthcare would fix this.

Stop. That 20-year old isn't unbathed, unhealthy and hateful because of the schooling he received. Our entire K-12 education is just a single puzzle piece in the bigger picture.

(-7) At 20 years old, it's a personal issue more than a parent issue. At some point people are responsible for their own personal hygiene. No other landlord would be deemed responsible for their tenant's hygiene.

(+15) Jesus this reminds me of a guy at my university. Exactly as you described; poor hygiene, racist, sexist, would say the most vile shit. He was severely neurodivergent so he had almost no consequences when he'd ask girls out, then call them fat cows that nobody would want immediately after they turned him down. He'd call black students slurs to their face, his dorm was covered in racist paraphernalia, he changed dorm mates a dozen times because nobody wanted to live with him, and he was on a no contact order with like two dozen people.

He finally got expelled when he got caught hanging a noose outside an NAACP meeting on campus.

Gotta wonder how many Chris Chans are out there.

(+20) Notice the dates on this: if he's 20 now, he was 14 in 2017. I can think of a very prominent reason that has nothing to do with either home or school life why a white teenager might embrace violent, hateful "race war" ideologies between 2017-2021.

(-4) These kids have been a constant. He obviously has below average intellengence. A lot of people do. He is a SPED student. The great majority of sped student will not be great citizens. Sounds like he will not live to be 30. If you see him do anything illegal call the police/file a police report. Keep an eye on him, but otherwise there is nothing you can do.

Being obese and dirty isn't healthy. Driving around with hateful bumper stickers that promote violence isn't healthy.

OP spent at least a year trying to help this kid overcome some serious obstacles that were leading him towards a sad, unfulfilled life (at best). When you care about your students, you want to be able to help them socially and emotionally so that they can thrive in the real world. Knowing that parents are actively working against the skills you're trying to teach kids is disheartening. OP saw a kid with some potential that was sabotaged by his own father and now she gets to see how sad and unfulfilled his life actually became. It's a sad fact and OP is venting to the rest of us who understand.

I've encountered individuals like you IRL and on the Internet but have yet to see anyone actively oppressing fat people. Where's your hot take re: alleged hateful bumper stickers?
