Greetings, I wanted to improve on these posts because I feel like they've been shit lately also I've been on drugs. I want to return to my old self and challenge myself with a worthwhile post that isn't a druggie rant or about vile moms or endless incel whining.

I think today we'll discuss the real-life SCP Foundation that existed - SAPS Occult Related Crimes Unit. In this instance, SAPS stands for South African Police Service. To understand this occult-fighting group, we'll need to delve into the Satanic panic, occultism in South Africa, and the everlasting power of witchcraft.

The Satanic Panic - An Overview

Satanic panics occur when a community believes witches or Satan himself is influencing people (usually women) on a large scale. The most popular example of this is the Salem witch hunts which, although having occurred in 1692, were fuelled by human flaws and traits that have been and still are prevalent in society. While it may be easy to disregard the events of the witch hunt and attribute it to simple ignorance, it represents a pattern of behavior that has endured in several forms.

During the Salem witch trials, several women in the community were put on trial due to claims of witchcraft. The escalation of the situation was brought along by fear, eventually leading to mass hysteria. Due to this mass hysteria, people were less likely to question the actions of authority, believing that everything was being done for the greater good. Unfortunately, it only led to the execution of several women instead.

Another important aspect of the witch trials is the shaming. You see, when one was put on trial, one had two choices: deny and die, or confess and face a lesser charge. If one was innocent, they would be forced to lie, admit to witchcraft, and tarnish their names to avoid execution.

What I'd like to stress is that the tragedy played out in the Salem witch trials is not an isolated incident of the past, but rather a representation of what happens when mass hysteria is left to escalate and a proper justice system is not in place. Although we may look at the citizens of Salem and see them as vile and wicked, they are no different than you and I.

My favorite text from the Satanic panic is Michelle Remembers. The book covers the experiences Michelle had as part of a Satanic cult as a child. The memories are recovered by her therapist Lawrence Pazder who she eventually marries.

The book is depraved. Not quite de Sade levels, but it's still pretty fricked up featuring cannibalism and mutilation. I was shocked at just how far it goes. I also like the different forms of Satan she depicts. A small request - can we raise the image upload limit to 30?

Sangomas - the African shaman

Various cultures around the world have had shamans or “medicine men” when people are facing physical and psychological problems. Typically, these figures have a connection to the realm of the ancestors or can offer spiritual aid.

In Southern Africa, sangomas play the role of the shaman within many Bantu tribes. As Gitte Postel explains, the sangoma is usually female, and “their core task is to communicate with the ancestors”. Like many other shamanic figures around the world, sangomas practice “divination and herbal treatments”, operate within a community of healers, and partake in rituals that involve “drumming, singing, and dancing as modes of interaction with ancestors and other spirits”.

The medicine used by Sangomas is known as muthi. It has an extremely sinister side. What the frick foids, you could have decided to use rare stones or leaves for your bullshit medicines but instead you chose the body parts of children as part of your healing rituals.

That was until three weeks ago, when 3-year-old Thabang Malakoane disappeared as his mother napped in their own shack next door. When his body was found, in a garbage bag under a thin layer of dirt, the left hand and genitals had been severed. The brain, heart and other vital organs were gone.

A continuing social issue in South Africa is the prevalence of muti murders. Labuschagne defines a muthi murder as “a murder in which body parts are removed from a live victim for the sole purpose of using the victim's body parts medicinally. These body parts are then often mixed with other ingredients or used alone to make a medicine called muthi”.

It goes without saying, but this is fricked up. This muthi is also sold to those who have sinister intentions. Most commonly, it is given to hitmen and other villains to give them the confidence to commit their crimes. Once they have taken the medicine, the criminals feel invincible and have less fear of the law. It also makes them act more recklessly, as they believe they are protected.

Satanic panic in South Africa

So, South Africa was swept by the same Satanic panic that had influenced the West in the 80s and 90s. Except it wasn't just kids in the woods. It was folks actually kidnapping 9-year-olds and using their hearts for rituals. Consequently, a task force was formed - the Occult Related Crimes Unit in 1992.

A big player in the move for a focus on the occult were psychologists who blamed several of society's ills The on Satan and his minions. The Satanic Bible was banned in 1993, and it seems the organization was still functional in 1993.

Satanism is linked to crime due to the common sacrificial religious practices that often leads to murder in order for members to be recognised in the cult.
