@FBIshill Yeah I called @BWC out last week for this, his understanding of Catholics is literally only from memeboards and he made some post about the "new atheist to tradcath pipeline" with incorrect dates for all of the events like elevatorgate.

I'll repeat now what I said then: he's from a Baptist family in a majority Catholic country so it's not exactly surprising even when it's annoying.

Trad Catholicism started in the 70s immediately when Vatican II happened and is ultimately centered around the shift from a solid 70-80 years in the late 1800s-early 1900s on Neo-Scholastic (Thomistic) theology towards a gradual acceptance of historical-critical readings of the Bible and a moral theology taking into account a more holistic view of psychology (things like recognizing that someone who grew up in a Baptist household isn't necessarily materially a "heretic" if they pursue God to the best of their ability within that framework, or also taking into account how psychology/psychiatry can impact moral culpability for an action). The Tridentine Latin liturgy is only part of that even though it ends up being the component focused on the most, in that it had prayers during Holy Week that called Prots heretics and Jews blind and perfidis (technically means faithless but in practice people would associate it with perfidious), amongst other components.

They view these things as evidence of a "modernist" infiltration of the Church and taken to various extremes it has caused groups to break communion with Rome and become pseudo-cults (sedevacantists like the CMRI/SSPV, but mostly the non-sedevecantist SSPX who are sizable and might still someday return to the Church).

Groypers on the other hand are not a phenomenon of any note/influence offline. The way Catholicism functions, you need to have sympathetic priests and bishops or else your movement has no legs. They are a few thousand annoying racist/antisemitic/nationalist chuds who may or may not actually go to Church (I have met some, but only a few irl zoomers) preaching a set of values very obviously at odds with Christianity. Some percentage of this small group do probably latch onto the Trads since there's antisemitic overlap, but they're not the source or driving force of any of it... and the only groyper Catholic influencer I'm aware of is actually explicitly not a Trad.

I really want to see a groyper goon go introduce themselves to their local priest and explain why TLM (they've never attended NO vernacular) and their "In Hoc Signis Vincent" (they can't read Latin) and Chi Ro (4th Crusade, never heard of her) tattoos brought them to the Church.
