They don't unionize for the same reason real engineers don't join unions. It's supposed to be a professional grade where you're not just a regular slob who's paid by the hour for dumb labour. In the past people in these roles would generally have their shit together as we had an effective system of bullying and hazing throughout teenage and early adulthood to ensure that if you made it into the professional world as and engineer doctor r whatever that you at least had some level of resilience and wouldn't cut off your pee pee at the first little crisis you hit
