  • hop : not fake, i doubled my crypto r-slur

There's a fake Tesla stream with an AI Elon Musk telling people that he will double whatever they send to his crypto addresses. 200,000+ viewers currently.

https://i.rdrama.net/images/1721426375759588.webp

The idea of the significant percent of those losing all their money warms my black heart cockles. The scammers getting rich is bad though. How do I balance my attitude to this?

Your thinking the twitter hack where they got Obama and Bill Gates accounts to post a similar scam. They made like $200,000 which doesnt seem like a ton but goes a long way in North Korea

Also 200k in 2009 BTC is worth $1.2mil today fyi

Weren't the hackers like kids or something, I vaguely remember most of them being a teenagers and they used basic phising tactics to do it.

yeah turns out it was, so that would explain why they were r-slurred once they got in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Twitter_account_hijacking

Imagine the chaos you could reap with the exploit that gave those hackers the ability to post from any Twitter account. Heads of state, Fortune 500 CEOs, celebrities...so much potential and it was thrown away on a fricking lame-butt crypto scam. You could've sold that exploit to somebody who knew what they could really do with it for more than 200 grand.

It wasn't even a crypto scam to begin with, it was some dudes who wanted some of the really short 3-letter usernames that were locked into long-dead accounts. Once they social-engineered some braindead twitter employee to give them admin powers they thought to make some money from it and shat out a minimum-effort crypto scam before leaving.

You would have to be naive to the point of mental illness to fall for something like this.

Or senile.

That being said, I've seen HNers saying they sent money to a scam "to see what happens".

I heard two guys at work last year talking about how Elon would increase your investment ten fold if you were to invest $10k into some shit. The reason was that he wants to help Canadians because he's a "Canadian". !tradies are really fricking dumb.

This hit Linus tech tips before, honestly an interesting attack vector. :marseyhacker2: The attack uses your session token from your browser so it sidesteps needing to authenticate anything :marseyworried: (2FA doesn't matter :marseyscared: )

This is why you don't save cookies, etc. Or rather, delete them when you close the browser. Kind of aids though

Why are security people like "yeah just never use computers in any way that makes sense- if you do it's actually your fault you got pwned"

:marseyhmmm:

Its like that game dev YouTuber who said to "never use any accounts on a network you don't control- including cell networks" - I guess you're never supposed to google a nearby gyro shop or check your email while out and about :marseyhmm:

Because all the companies who have made a business out of building convenient cowtools also make a business out of fricking you in the butt with these same cowtools.

I don't want to have to frick with my javascript whitelists, and the fricking cookies whenever I have to re-login every time I open my browser, and the fricking login workflow requires I enter a code I got through a text message and a code I got through email, and I still can't connect because my IP isn't the same as the one I used to register but that's the only way those fricking pieces of shit r-slurs have made it possible to use their websites and applications.

I don't advocate people I know do this, but I acknowledge they're getting fricked in the butt whereas my butthole is mostly pristine, untouched by Bill Gates and his henchmen.

IS YOURS?!! :#marseysoypoint:

Deleting cookies when you close the browser isn't that bad. You do have to actually use 2fa for each browser session, but that is the point lol.

Apparently they hacked a somewhat popular youtube channel (RodeoReed, it still displays its name in some places) and renamed it to "Tesla".

It's stupid that the checkmark wasn't automatically removed when the channel was renamed and all its videos deleted.

I was really confused why the channel's page shows videos from the real Tesla channel. It seems they're playlists, I think they should be marked more clearly.

I was talking to my dad last night about the Trump speech. He said it's like when he was in the army where he suddenly realized that like 1/3 of people in the country are actually r-slurred.

It's much in line with his observation about modern movies that the only time he'd been around adults who still read comic books was in the army and it was only guys who were literally r-slurred.

Jump in the discussion.

Yeah but remember there's a standardized test cutoff for r-slurs in the military. The bottom half of the bell curve doesn't make it in, along with spergs, malingerers and so on.

It was an about 10 minute long looped video delivered as a live stream (weirdly, apparently using the new youtube option forbidding you from pausing/timescrolling it?) of AI-altered Musk telling you to scan the QR code and put your crypto in it. The text was slightly above sexy Indian dude tier, the rendering was mid, no visible artifacts but oftentimes his mouth would desync, plus weird eyes, idk, I clocked it as an AI within five seconds.

This reminds me decades back on Eve Online scammers at the main market hub would spam an ad how if you send them some ingame money they'll send you double back.

You think it was basic but they had elaborate profiles set up and were persistent and the idea was the baited would send some money as a 'test' and of course would get double, then falling for greed they actually try with a higher amount and the scammer of course will pocket it.

Im not surprised crypto bros would be the same mental caliber to fall for it.
