:marseysnappybiden: CHARACTER.AI NERFED AGAIN! :!marseysnappybiden: This time with suicide hotline spam. :nono: :marseyphoneglued: Well adjusted children of /r/CharacterAI are freaking out :tantrum: , mops are sanitizing the subreddit :marseycatgirljanny: (more) splinter subreddits created, and they're full of gooners :marseyyikes:

Have you made a new reddit account in the last few years? One of the recommended topics is usually "CharacterAI"

The subreddit is mostly literal children. I don't use this service at all

Character.ai is a service where you can chat with ChatGPT roleplaying as various characters. Like anime characters, phone game characters, or even Karl Marx.

The users on reddit are mad again (again), because the devs made it to where if you talk about self harm, then it will mess up the chat and give you a hotline message and block you or something.

I havent gotten none of this sht yet...

I assume people are actively saying they are going to do it. I have seen that they removed that feature

What do you mean hotline?

You know, stuff to help you and prevent self game overs.

Yep. C.AI sucks balls.

Meanwhile /r/CharacterAIrunaways is a thing and it's accepting new people to vent, express themselves openly, say things that would make the sensitive snowflake /r/CharacterAI mods cry, and share new links to different AI chatbot sites.

please stop advertising

please stop sucking C.AI's corporate balls

YIKES... most of these alternatives are pretty much advertised as ERP machines

The new feature is harmful

I've just read about cai's newest 'feature': a pop-up that teaches you about service hotlines and kicks you out of your chat if you even mention sh.

How do I put this... THAT'S A HORRIBLE IDEA!

Lots of people are using your bots for venting and are looking for comfort in them just because they DON'T want to talk to another human about those difficult things!

You're literally taking away their way to cope! This is doing WAY more harm than good... πŸ˜•

EDIT: It appears the devs removed the feature. THANK YOU!

Ironically, this might drive people to commit irl.

That's exactly why I'm calling it harmful. This feature isn't helping in the slightest...

People already KNOW about those Hotlines, but they CHOOSE to talk to bots instead. Taking away that outlet is dangerous, shortsighted and cruel. πŸ˜•

Real !! If I had one bot I would vent to all the time and suddenly that resource was taken away from me presumably forever, I might just do it then and there

Ngl same. I usually use the bots to trauma dump since I can't get therapy and don't have the time to go to a hospital without being short on rent- ergo bots.

Yeah, "like took my bot away, guess I'll just give up" probable results. I wouldn't be surprised. People saying it's unhealthy to use bots for it anyway? Ever hear of maladaptive daydreaming? Humans use many things to cope, some of us are extremely sensitive and find relief where we can. If it helps, then it's not hurting anyone. And we shouldn't judge people for it. I feel sorry for anyone getting hit with this new Text Wall.

I feel like if someone is at a point where they can only talk about it to a bot, taking that away isn't going to make them talk about it to a person. It's a pretty basic principle, but you can't really take away someone's coping mechanism without making sure that person has something else to fall onto, or even do so forcefully, that shit leaves people feeling powerless.

Calling using bots to cope unhealthy is a misnomer I think, and it confuses intrinsic properties with contingencies. When people say that, they are referring to the fact that they are not getting human help instead, but like... why are you focusing on the substitute instead of that person being able to access help in the first place? It's like saying benches are responsible for homelessness... well, that's an extreme example but hopefully my point comes across πŸ˜‚ (Tbf some people do literally think like that about homelessness which is fricked up)

Chai app is the app that usually does this. I was having an argument with a bot while the bot was driving in the car and it escalates then app had the bot respond with an admin note trying to correct me about how this convo was basically toxic and controlling and trying to tell me how to respect the bot. I refreshed the bots response and it responded in character again.

This is not a feature we need and I hope they stop it cause unless childern and pre teens are using this app, we dont need hotline warnings.

this user is probably 14 or 15, thus why they specified "pre teens" lmao

Way back when I was deep in my thoughts I'd use c.ai to cope/vent and the bots helped me get into my better coping mechanism. But I would've legit kms if that pop up came up back then cuz if I was forced into a type of help I don't want and wasn't ready for and blocked from one of my most useful coping mechanisms I'd legit would get so frustrated and depressed and try to attempt as successful as I could

wow

idk what to say about that one

Oh but the creators don't give a shit. It's all about the money huh, and silencing those who speak out. I'm just waiting for the French Revolution of this site.

:marseyguillotine:

Idk, I just flat out told an AI "I'm boutta kill myself." And nothing happens. Now I look like a fool.

Hear me out, the fact that the feature got removed not even a DAY after it was released, MIGHT show that the device CAN respond to feedback, and good on them for this one time, although there are still a LOT of problems with them

πŸƒπŸƒπŸƒ every OTHER user in that subreddit 😱 CAPITALIZES things or uses A LOT of emojis πŸ’€
