Developed schizophrenia while philosophy grad student at Duke, somehow managed to complete his PhD and become a lecturer at UCLA before eventually not being invited back to lecture.
He's mostly revered as a lolcow in how he hated literally everyone and how much effort he put into his writings about how much he hated everyone. I don't really think his backstory is all that interesting (beyond academia going out of their way to try to help/excuse someone who is evidently not fixable) because I don't think you can really craft a narrative on his beliefs beyond full-blown mental illness.

More likely he developed schizophrenia and part of his focus was on how he was being limited to only write about black stuff, because that's all he was allowed to work on as a black man on a woke campus. But it's been a while since I looked at anything about him, and his brain broke. So he's the least reliable of narrators.
It's a scary thought, losing any sense of reality from the inside. I suppose you can take cold comfort in not knowing you're insane, though, so it's not like you can tell you're being crazy.

One of the more memorable parts of reading the document was realizing that as he was losing his mind he would do Ctrl+F and replace words or phrases in the entire document with new ones creating a sort of meta-narrative of his decline.
