This show is irredeemable garbage, but the most astonishing thing about it is the surrounding factors. It's not just the stuff that's on the screen (though that's certainly bad enough on its own). It's:The fact that it cost so much. The most expensive show ever made, and the result is this atrocity. In terms of value for the money, this has got to be the worst in the history of television. Nothing else falls this far below what should be reasonable to expect with such a budget.Picking a cast of practically all unknown actors. While a show doesn't need Brad Pitt and Matt Damon in it in order to succeed, Amazon seem to have actively avoided casting anyone of note. As a result, the performances range from genuinely terrible to occasionally mildly tolerable, with absolutely nobody in the show doing anything that can really be called impressive. The best one can say is that a few of them are mostly alright. And indeed, they have a grand total of zero nominations for any awards whatsoever... (36)

Hey.ย  Thanks for posting this.ย  Makes me feel like I'm not going crazy.ย ย I watched the first 2 eps of season 1.ย ย ย I even liked some hard parts of them.ย  I was willing to give it a chance and was excited for some new LOTR stuff.ย ย I gave up halfway through episode 3, maybe 4?ย  I could list all the things that sucked about it and made me stop watching but I'll spare you.ย ย  But oh boy was it bad.ย  Almost unbelievably so.ย ย  Like..... How did that scene even get greenlit? And that was every scene.ย ย So when I drop by Reddit and everybody is singing praises, or when the new season drops and has stellar scores and reviews, I feel like I'm going crazy.ย ย  Did I watch a completely different show?ย ย I've completely checked out on it- it's utter horseshit.ย  But it's so surreal seeing ads for it with a 90% RT score.ย ย Both seasons have currently dropped down to ~85+%, it's crazy that there is such a massive distance between it being universally panned by actual critics and individual fans and IMDb/R... Wait is this a "clever" way for saying the final scene of the series finale will redeem the whole series and I'll have egg on my face? (1)

This is what did it for me, when "Tom bombadil"tells "Gandalf" the whole some who live deserve death and some who die deserve life bit. Now it makes Gandalf just is repeating something he heard already, Completely destroys one of the best lines of the trilogy (movies). Couldn't be more clear the blatant piggybacking bullshit that sells in today's dumb frick viewer world. This show has made me violently ill every week since it came out though so at least it's consistent (2)

Holy shit! This is hilarious. It's like the inner workings of how incels process fiction. Are you insulted by a tv show? Awww, poor boy need a diapy change? Did the meany show runners piss in your cheerios? Awww, what a shame. Is the fiction being ruined? Are the untrue fantasy stories being told in a way that makes you angry? How can you frame it, so that you don't look pathetic, and childish? Kissing!?!?!!!!! In a tv show?!?!!!! Color me shocked! Shocked, I say!!!Oh no, orcs in sunlight! The sun is rising in the show, and I'm going to prove that I'm not a fricking crybaby loser, by determining where north is in fantasy land, and assuming that the sun still rises in the east on FANTASY LAND PLANET...because I'm not a loser. Wahhhhh (-1)

I'm going to prove that I'm not a fricking crybaby loser, by determining where north is in fantasy land, and assuming that the sun still rises in the east on FANTASY LAND PLANET...because I'm not a loser. Wahhhhh

Okay, I have to kick this one in the face because (1) Elrond and the rest of the Elves look off to the side where the sun is rising (2) Elrond expects the Dwarven army to come from the NORTH, this has been said several times (3) the Dwarves are supposed to appear along with the sunrise because this dumb show hasn't an original idea and only copies the movies, so they're trying to set it up like Gandalf and the Rohirrim appearing at Helm's Deep (4) Middle-earth is not a fantasy planet, Tolkien explicitly said it's our world and in our world, the sun rises in the EAST.

So this show had the sun rising in the North. Or they fricked up their own geography. Both are likely, because the showrunners haven't a brain in their oversized yet empty heads.

I will be watching next week because it's the last episode and I want to see how they tie up the sixteen dozen different plot threads they've got going. Spite watching is fun, because I get to b-word about it with like-minded mean people online! Seriously though, this episode was supposed to have the Big Battle that was going to be the highlight of the entire season and they still managed to muck it up. I don't know how they pulled that one off, but they did. They built up with all the pre-publicity that they were going to have a troll in it and then we get about ten minutes of screentime where the troll does nothing and gets killed off by a combination of Arondir (copying Legolas and the mumak from the movies), Elrond, and Gil-galad.

I thought the worst part of this episode was going to be Celebrimbor ugly-crying, but in fact it was the dumb siege tactics that made no sense and the stupid battle. They fricked up the Big Battle, the one thing that everyone would have had to appreciate, even those of us who had been critical all along, if only they had gotten it right.

Jackson's movies are not flawless and I complained about a lot of the changes he made back when they were released, but the guy knew that if you're gonna put a Big Battle on screen, get it right.
