This runner/commenter combo should be the standard for any game. No dead air, no
garbage, just two neurodivergents with deep understanding of the game explaining everything clearly for a lay audience.

This is pretty much the optimal setup. A guy running focused on the game, and another person commenting. But the guy commenting must not only knows exactly what is going, he must also be a talkative person that's able to fill the air effectively and is able to explain to the audience exactly what is going on, where the impressive parts are etc.
The second best (for non-intensive games), is a talkative runner, that is able to both play and commentate on the game at the same time.

Gods I hate modern GDQ.
95% of it is just listening to people's inane donation comments and trying to create fake hype. The magic is just completely gone. Literally the only thing I watched from this year's SGDQ was the Super Metroid race, and the only reason that was tolerable was because there was enough action and the commentators were very knowledgable so they able to keep the energy up, even through the endless donation train that tried to kill it constantly. And even then I was only interested in it, because I did some SM maprando this year, so I had some deeper appreciation for the tricks, because I had to learn them myself.
I know they're running the rando this time - which is going to be confusing as heck - but they're not listing any competent commentators this year, which worries me. Because there's no way the runners will commentate during the run, and the only commentator that's listed is just one of the generic GDQ commentators. So outside of fans of the SM community who currently watch SM content, no-one will understand the run - a run that is closing out the event.
