Powerjannies have done this for ages so they can "action" people without facing any scrutiny on their actual accounts. They started as just regular reddit accounts where the jannies would collaborate and share the password.

But years and years ago reddit started hiding mod teams on subreddits because people were getting upset at the mods. tbh I think it might be one of the only websites of its kind where they do this. I can't think of any forums I used to post on that had moderators completely hidden like that.

It comes down to whether the post hurts feelings, because of the absolute stranglehold they have on Reddit. In this case, a lesbian not liking girldick makes them sad, because if a someone who is attracted to women categorically does not like them then they feel invalidated.

Its not an account, its an option when you post as a moderator now. Just a name hider really.
