Their armed militias got driven out and scattered to a bunch of different countries like Tunisia. Which didn't really solve anything because the Israelis just started bombing Tunisia instead and the Palestinians moved back in a few years later. The power of the Palestinians in Lebanon was only broken toward the end of the civil war when and that was by Syria and the Shi'a, not Israel or the USA.

Yeah I think the idea is that anyone who'd be willing to take the Palestinians in this time is either our enemy or someone we don't care about, so yeah they're gonna be awful and destabilizing but who cares?
