It's not so much of infighting drama but boy howdy did they stir up the mob with this one. Built up just a massive confrontational ending and then just made sure that none of the threads they set up were allowed to be shown on camera.
I'm no good at lawlzposts so if anyone else has been keeping up on it feel free to enjoy seething redditors and drop your thoughts here. I personally didn't mind it and overall it exceeded expectations and am pretty neutral on the whole thing but I get the feeling that most fans would have preferred anything BUT closure at this point.

I knew it. I fricking knew it. After that abortion of a last season there was no way the reboot would be anything but awful. My coworker insisted it wasn't terrible but YA GORL BEEN KNEW

Anyone seen this? I saw the original and liked it but don’t wanna watch if it’s pozzed like they usually do with reboots.

I wouldn't say the tone or the "pozzed"ness whatever that means is any different than the original show. There's no commentary or political discussion and is very much a show about solely what's happening in the show. There's some fumbles in plot but I think the overall average experience is positive and worth watching

My theory was right - Dexter broke the code and Harrison put him down for it. I was right again.

I don't mind the ending tbh. Loved getting a dose of Dexter, I was fricking obsessed with this show back in the day.
Harrison was an absolute cute twink tho and literally ruined that whole town by showing up.

The finale of the main series had him literally just deciding to frick off into the sunset because he was too dangerous to be around people and that was it. No getting caught, closure, confrontation really. Everyone still liked him and they easily could have milked more out of it.
The sequel was brought back after 10 years to try and bring some sense of closure to that (and probably just for the cash too) and was actually doing good. Everyone was super skeptical until about halfway through where they realized "oh shit this is sort of like the good bits of the original show" and it built up hype for the last month or so only for them now to write in some completely unbelievable coincidences, ignore every loose end, showcase a blatant disregard for some of the basic facts of the original show by retconning them to fit better in the new one, and then old yeller him with three minutes left on the clock and show absolutely 0 follow up to it
Also they set it up like Indiana Jones 4 to pass the torch to some kid literally nobody gives a frick about if they go onto a further season

They can't have closure, they're devoid of ideas and will be bringing this show back in the future. Closure would make this far more difficult, expect the next season in 2026 if not sooner

The first four seasons were some of the best television ever made. The latter seasons leading up to the end of the seventh season we're okay and they had their moments. But the ending in the seventh season was a perfect setup for the 8th season. Because the 8th season should have been Angel figuring out figuring out (wrongly) that Dexter was Laguarda's killer (maybe he finds something at places Dexter at the scene). But to the course the investigation also finds evidence that Deb was there too.
He's conflicted and confused by the evidence but goes after Dexter thinking Dexter must be the one. Especially considering all of Dexter's past weird behavior. Over the course of the season he's unable to flush out Dexter who somehow remains a step ahead of the investigation. They play high stakes game of cat and mouse to formally best friends each trying to outwit each other. Angel comes out on top when he realizes he has enough evidence to place Deb at the scene so he arrests her instead. Angel gives Dexter the ultimatum to either turn himself in or Deb will be the one prosecuted.
Dexter, realizing that he actually loves his sister (not the creepy fricking way they did it in season 8 Jesus), turns himself in. Angel and Dexter have an extremely emotional scene where Dexter admits that he's the Bay Harbor butcher. He explains the code and everything that happened and all the people he's killed. Leaves it all bare for Angel. The only thing he lies about is Laguarda, to protect Deb. He begs Angel for forgiveness and Angel refuses to give it to him. Angel does make one concession though and says he'll help watch over Harrison.
The last episode has Dexter in his cell, talking to ghost Harry, while awaiting execution. Bitching and moaning about how the code didn't work and he killed Innocents and was caught anyways.
Ghost Harry gives Dexter a vision of what his life would have been like without the code. Dexter joins with his brother and kills Deb they both end up getting caught and killed. Dexter never has a son. After the vision Dexter accepts his fate.
The final episode ends with Deb, Harrison, and Matthews (the cop that helped Harry teach Dexter the code) in the audience to see Dexter's execution. Matthews whispers In Harrison's ear "you have to watch. You have to see what happens if you get caught." Showing that Harrison is going to be taught the code and it's going to be reinforced by watching an execution, just like Dexter.
Then we get it a slowly zooming in close up of Dexter's face. From off screen we here, "Do you have any last words?"
Dexter smiles and says, "Tonight's the night." Smash cut to black. Credits.
Instead we got whatever the frick that last season was. Still makes me mad thinking about it.

Yeah that's infinitely better than the actual last season. Not so sure I'm here for Angel being the one leading the charge but that would be much, much, MUCH better regardless.

Heck they could have even ended this new season similarly and chose not to. They actively set up a Bautista/Dexter confrontation by making him say he was ON HIS WAY and then ended the show before he even could make it there. Actually useless writers, there's no way something like that wasn't cut.
